Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> are in pole position to complete the signing of multiple-time Serie A winning central midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur<\/a> after Aston Villa dropped out of the race for the Uruguayan. Both Premier League<\/a> clubs appeared to be in fierce competition for Bentancur’s signature but having already had an active transfer window Villa have decided not to pursue the deal any further.<\/p>\n

Potential to Be a Smart Signing for Spurs After a Frustrating Transfer Window<\/h3>\n

Spurs are now the only team showing strong interest in Juventus’ Bentancur after Aston Villa failed to offer an improved bid to the Italian giants, according to Romeo Agresti<\/a>. The journalist said on Twitter: “Aston Villa have withdrawn from the race to sign Bentancur: no new offer for the player. Now Spurs are in pole position for the Uruguayan”.<\/p>\n

This would be a smart signing for Antonio Conte’s team after what has thus far been a very frustrating January transfer window<\/a> for manager and fans alike.<\/p>\n

Adama Traore was the subject of intense interest from the North London side earlier this month<\/a>, with Conte keen to land the Spaniard who he believed could be unleashed as a right wing-back. This was not meant to be, however, as Spurs failed to provide an acceptable bid to Wolverhampton Wanderers<\/a>. As such, Traore is now officially a Barcelona player on loan from Wolves<\/a>. This deal includes an option for the Spanish giants to sign the wide man permanently, a clause which they are highly likely to use.<\/p>\n

Dusan Vlahovic was<\/a> another player on Tottenham’s wishlist this January, although this certainly looked more of a long shot. The talented young striker has now completed his move to Juventus<\/a> having displayed a general lack of interest in his potential Premier League destinations.<\/p>\n
