Ever since Newcastle United<\/a> got their big-money takeover, they have not been shy in testing the waters of the transfer market. Kieran Trippier<\/a> and Chris Wood<\/a> arrived for a combined \u00a340 million. However, still well and truly into the relegation bout, the Magpies are searching for further attacking reinforcement. The hierarchy have set their sights on Bundesliga star Moussa Diaby.<\/p>\n

According to Telefoot<\/a>, as described by ESPN<\/a>, the Bayer Leverkusen winger is a “dream signing” for Newcastle United. An attack force consisting of Wood, Diaby, and Allan Saint-Maximin would be more than good enough to spearhead a charge for safety and climb up the table.<\/p>\n

This season, Diaby’s form has caught the eyes of many. Between 24 Bundesliga and Europa League matches, he has accumulated 11 goals and nine assists. Since his arrival from PSG in 2019 for \u00a313.5 million, Diaby has only improved in both his goal-scoring and assisting rate. Even\u00a0his inaugural season for Bayer Leverkusen saw him achieve 10 league goal contributions despite starting just 18 times.<\/p>\n

Newcastle United Might Be Priced out of Move<\/h3>\n

Unfortunately for Newcastle, even with their new pit of transfer money, they might be out-priced for this potential transfer. Such unwillingness to pay would not be due to a lack of money. Instead, it would be due to Financial Fair Play, as there is a limit to how much they are allowed to spend. A potential move, for a player of Diaby’s quality, age, and position of importance at his current club, could see him valued at upwards of\u00a0\u00a360 million.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, convincing the Frenchman, whose contract does not expire until 2025, to join the relegation battlers in this transfer window would be difficult. With\u00a0Premier League<\/a> status anything but a certainty next year, as well as Bayer Leverkusen sitting in 3rd place of the Bundesliga, Diaby will feel no rush to leave in his most prolific season yet. At just 22-years-old, he knows he will have plenty more, and likely bigger, transfer opportunities in the near future.<\/p>\n
