Following the sacking of Rafael Benitez, there have been a number of names linked with the vacant manager\u2019s job at Goodison Park, but former club legend Wayne Rooney has said<\/a> that there has been no contact from Everton<\/a> with him regarding the job.<\/p>\n

Wayne Rooney Confirms No Contact From Everton<\/h2>\n

Rooney \u2018Flattered\u2019 by Links<\/h3>\n

Everton is the club that Rooney grew up with. They will always be his club, but in regards to the vacant manager\u2019s position at Goodison Park he has said he is flattered but no contact has been made and he is focused on his current job at crisis hit Championship side Derby County.<\/a><\/p>\n

36-year-old Rooney shot to fame as a teenager with Everton and returned to the club prior to hanging up his boots and has made a positive impression in his first managerial position at Derby, where he has shown maturity that he was rarely famed for off the pitch.<\/p>\n

Speaking with BBC sport<\/a> regarding the managerial links with his boyhood club he said:\u00a0\u201cI’m flattered to get brought up in those conversations, but I know Everton know that to have any communication with me they have to go through the [Derby County] administrators.”<\/p>\n

Derby County Job Far From Easy<\/h3>\n

Derby have been hit with serval sanctions by the English Football League due to financial mismanagement, and <\/a>are currently\u00a0in administration following a 21-point penalty. Despite the off the field turmoil and players having to be sold, Rooney has taken a threadbare squad and taken them to a point where survival in the Championship is starting to look a possibility, with the club now just eight points from safety. To lose Rooney now would be unthinkable for the East Midlands club but there is little doubt that he would be interested should contact be made.<\/p>\n

Other Candidates<\/h3>\n

Other than Rooney, Everton have also been linked with a former Derby boss in Frank Lampard as well as interviewing the former Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro <\/a>on January 20.<\/p>\n

Everton are next in action against Aston Villa<\/a> in the Premier League on Saturday 22 January when Duncan Ferguson will take charge of the Toffees.<\/p>\n
