Former Arsenal<\/a> goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has officially signed a contract extension at Aston Villa<\/a>. The deal will see the shot-stopper stay at the club until 2027. The contract, itself, comes as no surprise. Martinez has been one of the most consistent players at the Midlands club since arriving in 2020.<\/p>\n

Steven Gerrard will be delighted to have the goalkeeper for an extended period, having witnessed his heroics first hand since taking over from Dean Smith.<\/p>\n

Mart\u00ednez told VillaTV<\/a> after signing the extensions: \u201cI won a major tournament with Argentina not long ago and every time I come through the tunnel at Villa Park on a matchday, I can see the crowd, the lights, the fans excited for us to play.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust before coming out (on to the pitch), I see the Champions League trophy and the FA Cup trophy and that\u2019s where I want to get.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to be in a Champions League final with Villa, I want to be at Wembley playing in an FA Cup final or Carabao Cup final.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m committing five and a half years to this club because that\u2019s where I want to get. I\u00a0won a major tournament for my country after 28 years and I want to do the same here, that\u2019s why I\u2019m committing my future to the club.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I signed for Aston Villa, obviously I had massive ambitions about being in Europe and being the best version of myself, and the club have opened a really good door for me.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey made me a better goalkeeper, with the goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler, Christian (Purslow), Johan (Lange), they\u2019re good people, very loyal and ambitious as well, like the owners.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo winning a major tournament for Argentina, thank you to Aston Villa for developing me as a good goalkeeper; and I think actually I can improve much more here and I want to commit my future here.<\/p>\n
