Bordeaux are eying up Arsenal<\/a> legend Thierry Henry as a possible replacement to current manager Vladimir Petkovic, according to The Guardian<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The French side is in freefall and are currently second from bottom in Ligue 1, leaving Petkovic in a precarious position as boss.<\/p>\n

Petkovic is reported to be on the brink of being sacked after four straight defeats – including a 6-0 hammering against Rennes. Petkovic will need to beat Strasbourg this weekend if he has any hope of keeping his job according to the reports.<\/p>\n

Thierry Henry has been in regular contact with Bordeaux’s President Gerard Lopez and is the club’s number one target to take over.<\/p>\n

Thierry Henry is currently an assistant manager with Belgium after stints as a manager at Monaco and MLS side Montreal Impact.<\/p>\n

His first spell as a manager at Monaco wasn’t a success. He won just four of his 20 games in charge and was sacked after just 15 months. The former French striker had a slightly more successful spell in the MLS before leaving due to family reasons.<\/p>\n

A return to France may appeal to the 44-year-old. However, taking over mid-season and with Bordeaux in a relegation scrap may persuade him otherwise. Another factor could be the reluctance of Belgium to let Henry leave in a World Cup year having already rejected Everton’s approach for manager Roberto Martinez.<\/a><\/p>\n

On the other hand, Henry may feel he has some unfinished business in France given how his time at Monaco ended.<\/p>\n

Troubling Times for Bordeaux<\/h3>\n

It has been a troubling last few years for Bordeaux. The six-time Ligue 1 champions are one of the most successful clubs in France. However, last year they were placed into administration<\/a> after its owners, investment management firm King Street, said they no longer wished to support the club financially.<\/p>\n

Despite, staving off the threat of bankruptcy and finding new owners, Bordeaux has found troubles to seek both on and off the pitch.<\/p>\n

According to L’Equipe<\/a>, they are on track to make a 64 million euros loss by the end of the season. Not only that, performances on the pitch have been terrible. They have won just three league games all season.<\/p>\n

Given their financial and league position, both could be a defining factor on whether Thierry Henry joins or not.<\/p>\n
