Everton has interviewed Fabio Cannavaro for the vacant club manager position, according to\u00a0The Telegraph<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

It is thought that the 48-year-old impressed during his interview this week as the Premier League club searches for Rafa Benitez’s replacement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Duncan Ferguson<\/a> was appointed for “the upcoming games” earlier in the week, indicating that there is not a timeframe for when Everton hope to have a new manager.<\/p>\n

A Three-Man Shortlist<\/h3>\n

The report also suggests that the Merseyside club has settled for a three-man shortlist.<\/p>\n

It has already been widely circulated<\/a> that former Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard and Derby manager Wayne Rooney were in line for interviews with Everton’s hierarchy.<\/p>\n

This follows on from numerous managers being linked to Everton. Former manager Roberto Martinez<\/a> was originally placed on their shortlist, but their pursuit was blocked by the Royal Belgian Football Association. Martinez had hoped he could combine the two roles.<\/p>\n

Speculation linking Jose Mourinho<\/a> to the Everton role was also quickly put down. Graham Potter<\/a> also dismissed interest in the job.<\/p>\n

Fabio Cannavaro’s Managerial History<\/h3>\n

Where Fabio Cannavaro was a consistent figure at the top level of the game during his playing days, he has stayed away from the European limelight during his coaching career so far.<\/p>\n

The former World Cup winner first started his touchline career with Ah-Ahli<\/a> in July 2013. Cannavaro had already been at the club for two years, first as a club representative and then as a strategic adviser.<\/p>\n

He left the United Arab of Emirates in November 2014 for China’s Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao. At the time, the country was in the process of a football boom.<\/p>\n

However, Cannavaro did not stay in China for long. After just 22 games, he was sacked<\/a>. The Italian moved to Saudi Arabian-based Al-Nassr FC, where he was sacked four months<\/a> into the role.<\/p>\n

He returned to China in July 2016 where he “accomplished the club’s targets”<\/a> in 2016 and 2017. Cannavaro returned to Guangzhou<\/a> towards the end of 2017 and he left<\/a> last September following the club’s financial troubles. Cannavaro also briefly managed the Chinese national team between March and April 2019.<\/p>\n

Cannavaro’s honours as a manager include the China League Cup, Chinese Super League and Chinese FA Super Cup. He was also named China’s Coach of the Year in 2017.<\/p>\n
