As per David Ornstein of The Athletic<\/a>, Manchester United<\/a> star Bruno Fernandes has \u2018shelved\u2019 contract talks with the Red Devils. The news comes at a worrisome time for the English giants, who currently sit five points adrift of the Premier League\u2019s top four, having won just four of their last 10 league games.<\/p>\n

With Fernandes\u2019 contract set to expire in 2025, there is more than enough time for negotiations to take place, but those at Manchester United will be concerned with their inability to offer what the midfielder would consider an acceptable deal.<\/p>\n

Keeping Fernandes Happy Should Be One of the Priorities<\/h3>\n

The club should always come before a player – no matter who that player is – but clubs will still be keen to keep their best players happy. And, in the case of Bruno Fernandes, there is perhaps no better player at Old Trafford right now, therefore making his contract, and appeasing his demands, a priority.<\/p>\n

Without Fernandes, there is no question that Manchester United would be worse off. In 106 appearances for the club, the Portuguese midfielder has scored 47 goals, and assisted a further 38. During his time at Old Trafford, no one has been better in a United shirt.<\/p>\n

Of course, this season he has dropped off slightly to coincide with Manchester United\u2019s continuous fall. But the key lies with Fernandes. Get him back on form, and Ralf Rangnick gets Manchester United back into the top four.<\/p>\n

At 27-years-old, Fernandes\u2019 prime will be in a United shirt. He is the player that will be used to spearhead any upturn in form, both in the present and close future. Keeping him happy, and giving him what he deserves when it comes to contract talks may be more important than ever. For now, however, talks have been parked.<\/p>\n
