With the winter transfer window now well and truly under way, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen to solve several problems – starting with the news of Hugo Lloris\u2019 contract situation. According to Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic,<\/a> the Spurs<\/a> captain is keen to sign a new deal, despite interest from Ligue 1 Rennes. Having enjoyed the start to life under Antonio Conte, it\u2019s no surprise that the Frenchman is eager to extend.<\/p>\n

Conte Reiterates Transfer Need<\/h3>\n

Conte, himself has called for certain changes. The Spurs boss has not pulled any punches recently when speaking about his squad, and has made it clear that he wants the drop off behind Harry Kane in the pecking order solved.<\/p>\n

Conte said<\/a>: \u201cFor sure, as a coach it\u2019s very difficult to decide to keep Harry on the bench. But at the same time, when you play the way we played in the last period \u2014 six games in 17 days \u2014 every coach has to have the possibility to make rotations without the level [of the team] dropping so much. Otherwise it\u2019s difficult for the coach to make rotations because you want the best.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to know that if you want to be competitive, you need a couple of players for every role. And between the player who usually plays, and the other player, the gap has to be not so big in every role. This is a problem for all the teams.\u201d<\/p>\n

Talks Held With Antonio Rudiger<\/h3>\n

With Antonio Rudiger\u2019s Chelsea contract set to expire at the end of the season, the line has started to extend in pursuit of his signature. According to Gianluca Di Marzio,<\/a> the German is in talks with Tottenham, Manchester City and Paris Saint-German about a potential move. Of course, as Chelsea\u2019s London rivals, Spurs are unlikely to be first in line, but, as Rudiger\u2019s future remains more and more uncertain, anything can happen.<\/p>\n

Either way, a central defender is certainly the targeted position. According to Fabrizio Romano,<\/a> Pau Torres of Villarreal is on the list, but the Spanish club are unwilling to part ways with the centre-back this month.<\/p>\n
