The news comes after Sport Republic bought Jisheng Gao\u2019s 80% stake for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skysports.com\/football\/news\/11700\/12509028\/southampton-takeover-club-confirm-serbian-born-businessman-dragan-solak-has-completed-100m-deal\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported fee of \u00a3100 million, as per Sky Sports<\/a>. The remaining 20%, meanwhile, is still owned by Katharina Liebherr.<\/p>\n<h2>Southampton Confirm Sport Republic Takeover<\/h2>\n<h3>Club Statement<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/12\/31\/newcastle-united-match-off-southampton\/\" target=\"_self\">Southampton<\/a> CEO Semmens had the following to say about the takeover on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southamptonfc.com\/news\/2022-01-04\/southampton-football-club-sport-republic-acquisition-of-ownership\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">official club website<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cOver the last two years, together with the shareholders of our club, we have searched for the right partner to take the club forward. Today we have found the perfect solution for our club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSport Republic are experienced investors, but also experienced within the world of elite professional sports. That combination is very hard to find, and we are thrilled to have reached an agreement that secures our short and long-term future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful for the support of Mr Gao and Katharina that allowed us to take our time, turn away the wrong options and ultimately find the right partner for the future of this great club, its fans, staff and the people of Southampton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday we welcome a new beginning with a new ownership group. We have found partners with ambition for the future, but with a clear understanding of what Southampton stands for and the direction we must go in now. The strategy is to push forward with the plans we have had in place over the last two years, but with their support we can now do this with a renewed focus and speed.
