Following talks, Everton have confirmed the signing of Nathan Patterson from Scottish Premiership side Rangers.<\/p>\n

Defender Becomes Everton\u2019s Second Signing of Window<\/h3>\n

Everton were interested in the young right-back in the summer transfer window, but were rebuffed on two occasions with their bid being considered to be too low by the current Scottish Premiership champions. When asked in the summer ig he was aware of the bid from the Premier League team, Patterson said;<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cYes, That was obviously nice to see that teams are interested but I am only interested in playing football. That’s the stuff that comes with it and I am not really aware of anything that happens, I just go on the pitch and do my thing and let the outside talk.\u201c<\/p>\n

Everton have maintained their interest in Patterson and have now returned with a third bid said to be for \u20ac11 million. And, this time, it has been enough to sway Rangers to sell. The fee sees Patterson become Rangers\u2019 largest sale to an English club, overtaking the previous record set when they sold Alan Hutton to Tottenham Hotspur.<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Lack of Game Time at Rangers<\/h3>\n

Rangers<\/a> Captain James Tavernier is the first choice right-back and his form had left Patterson with only six appearances in the league this season of which only two were from the start. Everton boss Rafa Benitez<\/a> has been under pressure since joining the blue side of Merseyside with some fans unable to forgive his Liverpool<\/a> past. Sitting 15th in the league has not helped endear himself to the Goodison Park faithful, either.<\/p>\n

Patterson now becomes Benitez\u2019s second signing of the January window, having already brought in another defender in Dynamo Kiev\u2019s Vitaliy Mykolenko as he looks to shore up the defence and try and kickstart Everton\u2019s season where expectancies were to be challenging for European places. Instead, they have found themselves sliding toward the relegation places and the slide needs to be halted quickly.<\/p>\n

It is unlikely that Everton have made their final signing of the January transfer window, with the club keen to back Benitez, who now has a firmer control on transfers since the departure of director of football Marcel Brands.<\/a><\/p>\n
