Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> have opened discussions over a Hugo Lloris<\/a> contract extension, Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

The French goalkeeper joined Spurs in 2012 and has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the club’s history.<\/p>\n

He has made 388 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur and has the position all to himself really, but Lloris did consider reuniting with Jose Mourinho<\/a> at Roma in the summer.<\/p>\n

Mourinho eventually signed Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio from Wolverhampton Wanderers<\/a><\/p>\n

Lloris’ current contract at Spurs expires in the summer but it’s understood that there’s a will on both sides for an extension to be agreed.<\/p>\n

There is even said to be quiet confidence on an agreement being found.<\/p>\n

Goalkeeper Felt There Was Too Much Reliance on Him and Harry Kane<\/h3>\n

Lloris is reported to have felt Spurs relied on him – the club captain – and Harry Kane too much. It’s easy to see where he’s coming from there. Since Antonio Conte’s appointment, Tottenham are unbeaten in the Premier League and signs are positive with such a success-hungry coach at the helm.<\/p>\n

A World Cup winner in 2018, Lloris kept 132 clean sheets in 388 appearances for Spurs, conceding 435 goals. All of those numbers will increase before he leaves the club.<\/p>\n

It is also added that Lloris wishes to play for hometown club Nice in France before he retires but at 34-years-old, he is young for a goalkeeper and retirement is unlikely to be on the agenda any time soon.<\/p>\n

Lloris has kept six clean sheets in 14 Premier League games so far this season.<\/p>\n

Tottenham signed Pierluigi Gollini to provide some competition for Lloris in the summer – so far he has given Spurs the opportunity to rest Lloris in the Europa Conference League.<\/p>\n
