However, they made a slow start in Cook’s first full season in charge, and failed to build a consistent run of form up until his sacking.

In recent weeks, Cook’s side have struggled in front of goal. With Macauley Bonne enduring a barren spell in front of goal, the rest of the team have followed suit. They have failed to take their changes and the manager has ultimately paid the price.

A statement from Mark Ashton said: “Firstly, we would like to thank Paul and his team for their efforts in what has been a difficult transition period for everyone.

“I know how much Paul wanted to succeed at this club. However, following discussions with the board, we have decided a change is needed for our long-term interests.

“At this moment, there is no one lined up to replace Paul. There will be an extensive search to find the best replacement for the Club.

“I will communicate more to the media and our supporters on Monday.”

A Challenge Lies Ahead

With no immediate replacement lined up, a challenge lies ahead for both the Ipswich Town board and Cook’s replacement.

The Tractor Boys are a club that should not be in League One. The challenge for the new manager will be to get promotion from the division this season. But with a new squad still gelling from the summer, the incumbent will also need time.

Main Photo
Embed from Getty Images

Ipswich Town have confirmed that they have sacked Paul Cook as manager after a 0-0 draw with League Two Barrow.
