Ipswich Town<\/a> have confirmed that they have sacked Paul Cook as manager after a 0-0 draw with League Two Barrow.<\/p>\n

The Tractor Boys had struggled in recent performances, and a defeat to Arsenal<\/a> U21’s proved to be the final straw for the former Portsmouth manager.<\/p>\n

Paul Cook Sacked as Ipswich Manager<\/h2>\n

‘Change is Needed’<\/h3>\n

Following the 0-0 draw with Barrow, chief executive Mark Ashton said that ‘change is needed’ in order for the club to build towards their long-term interests.<\/p>\n

After a busy window in which they signed 19 players, there were high hopes for Ipswich side. However, they made a slow start in Cook’s first full season in charge, and failed to build a consistent run of form up until his sacking.<\/p>\n

In recent weeks, Cook’s side have struggled in front of goal. With Macauley Bonne enduring a barren spell in front of goal, the rest of the team have followed suit. They have failed to take their changes and the manager has ultimately paid the price.<\/p>\n

A statement from Mark Ashton said: “Firstly, we would like to thank Paul and his team for their efforts in what has been a difficult transition period for everyone.<\/p>\n

\u00a0“I know how much Paul wanted to succeed at this club. However, following discussions with the board, we have decided a change is needed for our long-term interests.<\/p>\n

\u00a0“<\/span>At this moment, there is no one lined up to replace Paul. There will be an extensive search to find the best replacement for the Club.<\/p>\n

\u00a0“I will communicate more to the media and our supporters on Monday.”<\/p>\n

A Challenge Lies Ahead<\/h3>\n

With no immediate replacement lined up, a challenge lies ahead for both the Ipswich Town board and Cook’s replacement.<\/p>\n

The Tractor Boys are a club that should not be in League One. The challenge for the new manager will be to get promotion from the division this season. But with a new squad still gelling from the summer, the incumbent will also need time.<\/p>\n
