He’s been a part of the club since 2010 but truly began to make his mark in 2012 after three loan spells. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, his contract renewal is not a certainty.

Napoli are currently offering a salary of 50 per cent less than what Insigne makes now. Insigne’s agent, Vicenzo Piascante, said they are surprised by the offer and that “they’ll see” in terms of what will happen next. With that being said, Piascant also put any Major League Soccer rumours to rest.

Lorenzo Insigne Contract Renewal: Napoli Offer Not What Forward is After

A Fantastic Player and a Storied Past

Insigne remains a star for Napoli. More than this, he’s also a starter for the Italian National Team. Italy are fresh off a Euro 2020 crown and Insigne played a large role in this.

The Italian forward is one of the top wingers in all of Serie A. His shorter stature never stops him from displaying his talent. Whether it’s his bag of skills, curled shots with his right foot, or fantastic passing, Insigne always finds a way to create attacking movements.

This season Insigne holds four goals and three assists to his name in 11 matches. Napoli also sit at the top of the Serie A table. They’re tied with AC Milan in terms of points, with 32 in 12 matches. Napoli, however, have a goal difference of +20 while Milan’s is +15.

In short, Napoli hold a legitimate chance at winning the Serie A crown. This has not happened since the 1989/90 season when the legendary Diego Maradona plied his trade for the club.

Even if Napoli don’t win the crown, they have a very clear path to Champions League qualification. It would seem odd for them to let Insigne go as he’s the leader on a strong team with a solid mix of experienced players and exciting younger talent. Insigne is also 30-years-old, so he has at the very least a couple more years of high-level football.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Lorenzo Insigne will see his contract up with Napoli in the summer of 2022.
