Manchester United<\/a> have issued a Raphael Varane injury update after the French defender was injured in the UEFA Nations League final<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils have confirmed Varane has sustained a groin muscle injury.<\/p>\n

Things looked bleak for Manchester United when both Harry Maguire<\/a> and Luke Shaw<\/a> left the field with injuries during their 1-0 loss to Aston Villa<\/a> on September 25, 2021.<\/p>\n

Luke Shaw seems to be getting back to fitness having been with the England<\/a> camp this international break. He was not in the matchday squad for the 5-0 win over Andorra on October 9, 2021. It remains to be seen if he is included v Hungary tonight (October 12).<\/p>\n

However, club captain Harry Maguire has missed that England camp and now they will be without Raphael Varane for a few weeks.<\/p>\n

The French defender, who has played every minute of United’s last five Premier League games since joining from Real Madrid in the summer, will represent a huge loss to the defence ahead of a difficult run of fixtures.<\/p>\n

Coupled with Maguire’s absence, Manchester United may have to turn to Sweden captain Victor Lindelof<\/a> and Eric Bailly<\/a> as a pairing.<\/p>\n

Phil Jones is also an option as he returns from a long time out injured, but surely will be behind the two players mentioned above.<\/p>\n

Bailly has just completed 90 minutes for the third time this season – helping Ivory Coast to a 2-1 win over Malawi.<\/p>\n

Manchester United Statement Confirming Raphael Varane Injury Absence<\/h3>\n

A statement from Old Trafford on manutd.com reads<\/a>: “Raphael Varane sustained a groin muscle injury in the UEFA Nations League final and has commenced rehabilitation at the club.<\/p>\n

“He will be out for a few weeks.”<\/p>\n

Despite sustaining an injury, Varane helped France to UEFA Nations League success during the international break, three years after their triumph in the 2018 World Cup.<\/p>\n

Varane’s trophy cabinet is full of medals and that is largely why Manchester United signed him.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils have a tricky period approaching, starting with a trip to Leicester City<\/a>‘s King Power Stadium on Saturday, October 16. They then face Atalanta<\/a> in midweek before hosting Liverpool on Sunday, October 24.<\/p>\n

It’s fair to say United could do without the injury problems they have been hit with at the moment.<\/p>\n
