Ralf Rangnick is among those being considered, while a new CEO is also being sought.

Steve Bruce Set to Leave Newcastle

New Manager a Priority

While the latter two roles will need to be filled as soon as possible, the focus now is very much on hiring a new manager to replace Bruce.

Burt reports that the 60-year-old is expected to be told this week that he is being let go when he talks with the new owners.

It is looking likely that Bruce’s assistant, Graeme Jones, will be in charge for the visit of Tottenham on October 17, and will then assume caretaker charge until Bruce’s replacement arrives.

This could yet change, though, depending on the structure that the new owners want to use.

Bruce admitted in an interview with The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards last week that he could be facing the sack once the takeover was completed.

He has led the club to consecutive mid-table finishes since taking over in 2019, but they are yet to win any of their first seven games this season and currently sit second bottom of the Premier League.

When the takeover was going through previously, it became clear that the then-potential owners were going to give Bruce time to prove he was the man for the job – however, given the lack of progress between then and now, they have decided to move straight away in the search for someone new.

Who Could Come In?

As Burt’s article reported, Ralph Rangnick is being considered for the sporting director position.

The 63-year-old, who currently works for Lokomotiv Moscow as the head of sports and development, has previously held managerial roles too, and was interviewed for the Everton job before they eventually went with Carlo Ancelotti.

An unattached option could be former Chelsea and Juventus boss Antonio Conte. With the new financial backing that the club have, they may be able to tempt somebody of his status.

Meanwhie, Steven Gerrard at Rangers, Roberto Martinez at Belgium and Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City have all been rumoured.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce is set to be sacked ahead of next week’s game against Tottenham Hotspur, which will be the first under the club’s new ownership, reports The Telegraph’s Jason Burt.
