Inter Milan<\/a> have opened talks over a new Nicolo Barella contract which would see the youngster committed to the club for some time, according to Fabrizio Romano<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Italian journalist Romano claims Inter have opened talks with Barella over a new contract at the San Siro, and the club hope an agreement can be reached sooner rather than later.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It has been suggested that Inter chiefs have already met with the midfielder\u2019s agent Alessandro Beltrami<\/a> to discuss the terms of his client\u2019s proposed deal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Barella is currently under contract with the Nerazzurri until June 2024, but the club are intent on rewarding the 24-year-old as a result of his performances.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As such, Romano has added that the situation is currently not urgent; there is hope that steady progress can be made throughout the international break.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Barella Enjoyed a Fine Campaign Last Season\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Barella cemented a position in Inter\u2019s midfield as his own last season, which has ultimately led him to be one of Europe’s best in the centre of the park.<\/p>\n

He played an instrumental role as part of the side\u2019s run to the Serie A title, playing 36 games which placed him in strong contention for the Italian national team at Euro 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He also shone for his nation over the summer as Italy went all the way and lifted the trophy<\/a>, helping the team clinch its first European Championship crown since 1968.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Barella\u2019s campaign subsequently captured the attention of a host of sides around Europe and led Inter to face the challenge of fending off reported interest for a key part of their squad.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The likes of Premier League giants Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea had all kept tabs on him over the summer<\/a>, though a deal to prise him away from Italy never came close to materialising.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But current reports seem to suggest that the reigning Serie A champions hold firm possession in the battle for Barella, and a new deal looks to be fast approaching.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
