With the international break finally over, FPL managers can finally get back to pondering about the real issues in life. Will Cristiano Ronaldo start this week? Is he essential? Read on to find out more about that and other things related to this gameweek.

Fantasy Premier League 2021/22 Gameweek Four Picks

Quick Tips

This break for international football was one of the most eventful ones in recent memory and all for off-the-field shenanigans. Most players from South America were not released by the Premier League clubs and some of them might not be allowed to play this week. The four Argentinians from Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur will miss this week for sure as they are away in Croatia to avoid hotel quarantine. Meanwhile, there are injury concerns with Romelu Lukaku. The talk of the footballing world, Cristiano Ronaldo joined up with Manchester United a few days ago and looks likely to start this week. There are a plethora of issues to contend with this week and one should intently monitor the pre-match press conferences.

Goalkeepers

Quite a few FPL managers are deploying their first wildcard chips this week. For them, Robert Sánchez, Daniel Bachmann, Jose Sa, Bernd Leno and Jordan Pickford are options to consider. None of them are going to keep a clean sheet every week but should do well enough over the long term. Robert Sánchez should be a good choice on the cheap. However, one could target the easier fixtures on the horizon for Sa, Pickford and Leno as well although they cost a bit more.

Defenders

Arsenal and Wolves have the best fixtures coming up. However, they are yet to score or collect a point this season. So, you have to take somewhat of a gamble to pick players from these two sides. Kieran Tierney and Ben White could do well over the next five gameweeks if the Gunners get their act together. On the other hand, Nelson Semedo and Romain Saiss are the ones to consider from Wolves. Saiss is a goal-threat and was unlucky not to score against Manchester United last time around whereas Semedo goes forward a lot.

With FPL managers needing every unit to fit the likes of Ronaldo and Lukaku in, one might be tempted to sell Trent Alexander-Arnold for a cheaper option. It might be a mistake to do that though as he has already earned 22 FPL points in the opening three gameweeks and has decent fixtures coming up.

Luke Shaw could profit from the arrival of Ronaldo as he could get a few more assists this season. However, the upcoming fixtures for him after this week are not that great.

Eric Dier, Shane Duffy, Conor Coady, Brandon Williams, Luke Ayling and Tino Livramento are other cheap options to consider in a medium to long term plan.

Midfielders

Many FPL managers are selling Bruno Fernandes to raise the funds to fit in Ronaldo. Fernandes remains a good pick but without penalties and free kicks, it’s difficult to justify spending so much on him.

Mohamed Salah is just the king of FPL and one cannot go without him. Leeds United away is a tough fixture but they give away chances to the opposition in every game. So, a goal or more could be there from Salah. Diogo Jota is a great option, especially with the injury to Roberto Firmino.

Son Heung-min has made a good start to the season but is a slight injury concern this week.

Mason Mount is a solid option at a decent price. However, Chelsea have a couple of tough games coming up after this gameweek so one might opt to wait a bit before bringing him in.

Ferran Torres has thrived upfront for Pep Guardiola’s side this season. He could be a great option if he continues in that role.

Mason Greenwood should be fresh and raring to go after not being called up by England. He is in great form as well.

Demarai Gray is in superb form also and is worth consideration.

Adama Traore, Ismaila Sarr and Bukayo Saka are also decent options at the cheap.

Strikers

Cristiano Ronaldo is back in the Premier League. He is one of the best players in the world, even at the age of 36. The Portuguese scored 29 Serie A goals for Juventus last season and should score a fair few at Old Trafford this season. Ronaldo should start for Manchester United against Newcastle United at home, which is a brilliant fixture for him to get a goal or more. With close to 18 per cent in the game owing him already, one needs to try and fit him into the side.

Romelu Lukaku has a very nice home fixture this week against Aston Villa, who will be without Emiliano Martinez in goal. However, his injury concerns will worry his FPL owners. It is tough to fit both him and Ronaldo in the same team though.

Michail Antonio is the highest-scoring player in the game right now and one cannot go without him.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has made a good start to the season and has three nice fixtures coming up. He scored against Burnley last season as well although Everton lost that game.

It would take a brave man to even consider picking an Arsenal player these days let alone spending almost ten units on one but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be worth a punt. Arsenal beat Norwich City 4-0 last time the Canaries visited the Emirates with Aubameyang scoring a brace.

Fantasy Premier League 2021/22 Gameweek Four Captaincy Picks

Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Fantasy Premier League 2021/22 gameweek four kicks off this Saturday with a London derby between Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur.
