Former France international Franck Rib\u00e9ry will accept a one-year contract offer from Serie A club Unione Sportiva Salernitana, according to Sky in Italy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Bayern Munich<\/a> legend, who is currently without a club having left Fiorentina this summer, will reportedly put pen to paper on a year-long deal that carries the option to extend for a further year, which would mean he would be playing into his forties.<\/p>\n

An Historic Signing for Salernitana<\/h3>\n

The signing of Rib\u00e9ry would represent a major coup for Serie A newcomers Salernitana given everything the 38-year-old has achieved in the game.<\/p>\n

Over the course of an exceptional career, the Frenchman won over 80 caps for his country, and enjoyed repeated success at club level with Bayern Munich.<\/p>\n

The vast majority of Rib\u00e9ry’s silverware was won in Bavaria, where he contributed towards nine Bundesliga title successes, six German cup triumphs and a Champions League victory, among a host of other domestic cups being added to Bayern’s trophy cabinet.<\/p>\n

Rib\u00e9ry is also no stranger to collecting individual awards, having won the UEFA Best Player Award in 2013, and having also been a three-time footballer of the year in France and Germany.<\/p>\n

Veteran to Help Salernitana Survival Effort<\/h3>\n

Salernitana have not played top-flight football since 1948, and have the challenge of surviving in the division this season. Fabrizio Fastori’s side won promotion last season courtesy of a stunning second-placed finish in Serie B, having finished tenth the season before.<\/p>\n

The club have primarily utilised the loan and free transfer markets in order to put together a squad capable of avoiding the drop, and the addition of Rib\u00e9ry will continue that trend.<\/p>\n

Despite being in the latter stages of his career, Rib\u00e9ry represents a big-name signing who remains in admirable condition physically, having made 50 Serie A appearances for his former club Fiorentina after joining in 2019.<\/p>\n
