Oxford United<\/a> returned to winning ways in the league but were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in this week’s round-up.<\/p>\n

Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: U’s Out of the Cup But Third in the League<\/h2>\n

International Call-Up for Whyte<\/h3>\n

Oxford United winger Gavin Whyte has been called up to the Northern Ireland squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifier matches against Lithuania and Switzerland, as well as a friendly in Estonia.<\/p>\n

As a result, the winger will miss Oxford United’s trip to Cambridge United in the Football League Trophy and a league game at AFC Wimbledon.<\/p>\n

Whyte, who returned to Oxford on a season-long loan from Cardiff City last month<\/a>,\u00a0has 19 caps for Northern Ireland and made his debut for his national side during his first spell at Grenoble Road.<\/p>\n

U’s Out of the Carabao Cup<\/h3>\n

On Tuesday night, Oxford United bowed out of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 defeat against Queens Park Rangers.<\/p>\n

Former U’s defender Rob Dickie gave the R’s the lead with a stunning effort from range before a deflected effort before the break doubled the host’s advantage.<\/p>\n

Oxford had decent spells in the game but were unable to force a way back. It is the second successive season they have been eliminated at this stage after losing to Watford<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n

Mackenzie Chapman Joins Oxford United<\/h3>\n

On Friday, the U’s made an eighth signing of the summer after goalkeeper Mackenzie Chapman joined the club.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old began his career at Accrington Stanley completing a move to Burnley, where he remained until his scholarship.<\/p>\n

He joined Manchester United<\/a> for the first year of his scholarship before joining Oldham Athletic. During his time at Boundary Park, Mackenzie made his first-team debut.<\/p>\n

Win Over Lincoln<\/h3>\n

The U’s returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Lincoln City. Karl Robinson’s side took the lead through James Henry and the midfielder doubled the lead midway through the second half.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old completed his first-ever hat-trick from the spot in the second half before Anthony Sculley scored for the Imps, also from the spot.<\/p>\n

The result moves Oxford up to third in League One, two points behind early leaders Sunderland<\/a>.<\/p>\n
