The midfielder’s arrival coincides with Will Hughes’ departure to Crystal Palace. With 11 new faces already through the door, are the Hornets done with their business in this transfer window? Signs say movement in both directions may still be in the cards.

The Transfer Outlook for Watford

All the New Arrivals and Departures

Watford have signed a total of 11 players for a combined price of around £20 million. A few of the players are on loan with options or obligations to buy if Watford maintain their Premier League status.

Some names heading out the door permanently this summer for the Hornets are Will Hughes, Ben Wilmot, Stipe Perica, Filip Stuparevic, and Isaac Success. Adalberto Penaranda, Pontus Dahlberg, Tom Dele-Bashiru, Philip Zinckernagel, and a handful of youngsters have been sent out on loan.

Watford Players Who May Be Offloaded

Like Hughes, Nathaniel Chalobah has uncertainty surrounding his contract situation as he enters the final year of his current deal. Considering the Hornets have now signed five central midfielders, Chalobah has extra incentive to seek a move away as minutes for him do not appear plentiful. Watford would be unlikely to stand in his way considering the arrivals.

Domingos Quina’s future is also up in the air after being omitted from the first three match-day squads of the season. Even though he prefers to stay at Vicarage Road, the Watford Observer suggests the club are looking to offload him for the upcoming season as he is not in the current plans. This is harsh for the 21-year-old, considering the tremendous amount of promise he showed when given chances in the Premier League during the 2018/19 campaign.

Troy Deeney, a club legend at Vicarage Road, might see his 11-year stay finally come to an end. The club confirmed Deeney and senior officials are in discussions to decide what the best course of action for the 33-year-old is ahead of the upcoming season. With new arrivals all above him in the pecking order, the time has come where his services are no longer needed in Hertfordshire. Nonetheless, it will still be a big deal when one of the club’s biggest icons leaves.

Of course, other fringe players could also leave Vicarage Road.

Centre-Back and Defensive Midfielder Might Still Arrive

Although the Hornets could now be done signing players, that is not to say more signatures would be shocking. Perhaps not necessary considering their versatile new options, the Hornets are still without a true, defensive-minded number six. With known interest in Celta Vigo’s Okay Yokuslu, Watford could bring him in if the price is right.

After missing out on Lyanco to Southampton, the Hornets might still look to bring in a different centre-back before the start of September. With just four central defenders with top-flight minutes, and question marks surrounding a couple of their talents at this junction in their careers, seeing a new defensive reinforcement come through the doors at Vicarage Road makes sense.

Watford might be done signing new players this transfer window after all, but do not be surprised if Sissoko is not the final face through the door.

Main Photo
Embed from Getty Images

Watford recently confirmed the signing of Moussa Sissoko from Tottenham Hotspur.
