After weeks of speculation, it appeared that the England captain was certain to join Manchester City in a record-breaking move.

However, Kane is still at Spurs following the breakdown of the proposed transfer and his rejection of a new and improved deal with the north London club which was offered just weeks ago according to The Athletic. The England striker had told Spurs he wanted to leave and Manchester City were keen to sign the prolific forward. Following weeks of rumours and talks between the two clubs and the player, a deal could not be reached. Spurs’ valuation of their star player was way higher than than the reported £100 million reportedly offered by Premier League champions.

Kane Wants Improved Deal to Reflect His Worth

Kane advised via his Twitter account that he would be starting at Tottenham this summer and would give 100%. However, it is believed that the England captain wants a new and improved deal to put him in line with other top players in the country.

The Evening Standard report that Kane wants a deal to reflect the valuation the club put on him during the summer. Wages of around £400,000 are expected to be asked for to put him in line with the likes of Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Spurs in Driving Seat

Negotiations on a new deal are not expected to go smoothly for Kane. The player still has three years left on his current deal. It is expected that Daniel Levy will drive a hard bargain with Kane and not give in easily to the player’s demands unless clauses are inserted into any deal that will be of benefit to Tottenham in the future.

Levy, Spurs and the fans were disappointed as to how the proposed move to City unfolded. Kane is still one of the clubs top earners at around £200,000 per week and with three years left on the deal he signed in 2018, negotiations may take some time.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Harry Kane and Tottenham Hotspur are set to do battle over a new contract.
