Borussia Dortmund<\/a> are reportedly in talks with Manchester United<\/a> over a deal to sign Portuguese right-back Diogo Dalot.<\/p>\n

According to Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol<\/a>, the Bundesliga side would like to sign the 22-year-old on loan with an option to make the transfer permanent next summer.<\/p>\n

Dalot Has Failed to Win Over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer<\/h3>\n

It is not known at this stage whether Manchester United are open to selling the defender in twelve months’ time, but a loan exit away from Old Trafford does look a likely scenario amid Borussia Dortmund’s interest.<\/p>\n

Dalot joined the Red Devils in summer 2018 from Porto during Jos\u00e9 Mourinho’s time in charge at Old Trafford, but has found minutes hard to come by under the Portuguese’s successor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.<\/p>\n

The young right-back spent last season on loan at Serie A giants AC Milan<\/a>, making 33 appearances in all competitions at the San Siro. Having returned to Manchester United on the eve of the current campaign, Dalot has continued to play second-fiddle to Aaron Wan-Bissaka in Solskjaer’s back four.<\/p>\n

By contrast, Borussia Dortmund have been looking to sign a new right-back all summer, meaning Dalot could expect to see more game time if he seals another loan move over the coming days.<\/p>\n

Fitness Key to Dalot Progress<\/h3>\n

Dalot had been plagued by injury problems prior to last season’s loan spell with AC Milan, where he was able to rack up over 20 appearances in the Italian top-flight.<\/p>\n

After Manchester United played the Milan club in a Europa League clash last season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pointed out<\/a> that the key to Dalot’s progress will be in the defender’s ability to stay fit over the course of a whole season, adding that he had been unable to do so at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

Having built up his fitness throughout the 2020\/21 campaign, Dalot went on to play for both Portugal’s U21 and senior sides at Euro 2020, before linking up with the United first-team for pre-season.<\/p>\n

As such, Borussia Dortmund will know that Dalot has put any past injury issues behind him as they chase the player’s signature in the final days of the window.<\/p>\n
