A former fan favorite amongst the Arsenal<\/a> supporters, Lucas Torreira is now reportedly set to depart the club this summer. According to\u00a0Gianluca Di Marzio<\/a>, Arsenal and Italian club Fiorentina are close to an agreement on a loan move for the Uruguayan midfielder. The deal includes an option for the Italian side to sign Torreira on a permanent deal next summer.<\/p>\n

Recently, the Uruguayan’s agent has spoken<\/a> publicly about the midfielder’s desire to return to Italy. Torreira spent four-years of his career in Italy playing for Pescara and Sampdoria before joining Arsenal in 2018. Torreira spent last season on-loan with Atletico Madrid<\/a> and has been training alone since his return to London earlier this summer.<\/p>\n

According to the report from Di Marzio, Fiorentina’s offer includes a \u20ac1.5 million loan fee for this season. Also included in the offer is a \u20ac15 million purchase option. A cut rate price considering the reported \u00a326 million that Arsenal paid for Torreira. However, the price could be enough for Arsenal to cut their losses in regards to the Uruguayan.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0football.london, Lucas Torreira originally had other ideas upon his return to Arsenal. Intending to compete for a first team role with the Gunners, Torreira was informed that he was not apart of manager Mikel Arteta’s plans. From that point, the report states that the midfielder began angling for a return to Italy.<\/p>\n

A Curious Case of What-if for Arsenal and Torreira<\/h3>\n

Prior to last season, Lucas Torreira was a regular in the Arsenal first team. Making 89 appearances during his first two seasons with the club, the 25-year-old did see a significant drop off in his second year.<\/p>\n

The Uruguayan international also suffered greatly last season. Making just 26 appearances for Atletico. With everything happening, it is understandable that Torreira is attempting to return to Italy. After all, the country is the site of his best days as a footballer.<\/p>\n

Playing in both Serie B and Serie A during his stay in Italy, the now 25-year-old became a star player in the country. Attempting to rekindle that magic, a move to Fiorentina seems to be in the best interest of all parties.<\/p>\n
