Chelsea<\/a> striker Tammy Abraham will join Serie A side AS Roma after the two clubs agreed a \u20ac40 million deal for the England international.<\/p>\n

Fabrizio Romano<\/a> has confirmed that Abraham will now travel to Rome in order to complete a medical and sign with Jos\u00e9 Mourinho’s side.<\/p>\n

Having lost Edin Dzeko to Inter Milan<\/a>, Roma were desperate to bring in Abraham as their new number nine, and stepped up their efforts to sign him after Arsenal joined the race<\/a> for the striker.<\/p>\n

The club’s sporting director, Tiago Pinto, flew into London for talks with Abraham in order to get the deal over the line, while the striker has also spoken directly with Mourinho.<\/p>\n

For their part, Chelsea will no doubt be relieved that Abraham has agreed to join Roma as opposed to their London rivals Arsenal. The Blues’ preference was always to avoid selling the 23-year-old to a Premier League rival, while the Gunners will have to look elsewhere in their search to bring in a new striker.<\/p>\n

Chelsea Include Buy-Back Clause in Abraham Deal<\/h3>\n

While the total transer fee of \u20ac40 million – to be paid in instalments – has been agreed between Roma and Chelsea, some of the finer details of the transaction make for interesting reading.<\/p>\n

Thomas Tuchel’s side have re-signed former striker Romelu Lukaku for a club-record \u00a397.5 million this summer, and are evidently willing to do the same with Abraham if he performs well in Serie A.<\/p>\n

The Champions League winners have included a buy-back clause<\/a> of \u20ac80 million in their deal with Roma. The clause does not become active until summer 2023, which in theory will guarantee the Italian side at least two years to enjoy Abraham’s talents before needing to worry about his future.<\/p>\n

Despite falling out of favour under Tuchel’s management, Abraham still ended last season as Chelsea’s joint-top scorer, meaning no Blues player has outscored him in either of the last two campaigns.<\/p>\n
