Leicester City<\/a>\u00a0have signed Southampton<\/a> defender Jannik Vestergaard after the two clubs agreed a reported \u00a315 million deal<\/a> for the 29-year-old.<\/p>\n

Southampton have been one of the busiest Premier League sides this summer in terms of transfers in and out of the club and now must sign a replacement for Vestergaard before the deadline later this month.<\/p>\n

Vestergaard’s move to Leicester brings to an end his three-year association with Southampton. The Denmark international moved to the Premier League in 2018 from Borussia Monchengladbach and will hope to help his new club push for a place in the Champions League once the new campaign gets underway.<\/p>\n

The signing of Vestergaard has taken on increased importance to Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester side following the seious injury suffered by Wesley Fofana<\/a> in pre-season.<\/p>\n

Fofana will be out of action until the new year after breaking his leg during a friendly game with Europa League winners Villarreal.<\/p>\n

Ralph Hasenhuttl Says Saints Must Sign a Replacement for Vestergaard<\/h3>\n

The loss of Vestergaard – who played in all of Denmark’s matches as they reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020 this summer – is a big one for Southampton, and his absence will be felt more heavily if the club fails to find a replacement this month.<\/p>\n

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has said his side will look to sign a new centre-back, telling the media<\/a>: “He will go to Leicester, then it is for us to replace him and this is what we will do in the future.”<\/p>\n

Vestergaard made 30 top-flight appearances for the Saints last season, scoring 3 goals.<\/p>\n

Hasenhuttl added: “We’ve made the squad bigger, with players with a future at this club,” said Hasenhuttl. “There is still one position to fill because we have lost Jannik.”<\/p>\n
