According to a report from Sky Sports’ Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea have reached an agreement to sell Abraham to AS Roma. The final remaining hurdle before finalizing the £34 million deal is Roma’s ability to agree to terms with the 23-year-old forward.

Roma Reach Agreement With Chelsea for Tammy Abraham

C'è l'accordo tra la @OfficialASRoma e il @ChelseaFC per #Abraham, ora serve solo l'ok del giocatorehttps://t.co/tRj7cZwU7p

— Gianluca Di Marzio (@DiMarzio) August 9, 2021

Chance to Star Under Mourinho

A move to the Italian capital would reunite the England international with former manager Jose Mourinho. During Mourinho’s second stint at Stamford Bridge, Abraham was seen as a very promising academy prospect. Despite this, Abraham did not make his senior side debut till after the Portuguese manager was sacked by the club.

Given Chelsea’s preference to sell Abraham to a foreign side, this may actually be a perfect scenario for the 23-year-old. With Roma looking to return to the top table in Serie A, Abraham would present a major boost to the club’s fortunes. He would also become an immediate star for the yellow and reds, giving him the playing time he both deserves and desires.

A Fall From Grace at Chelsea

Entering last season, Tammy Abraham was seen as one of Chelsea’s biggest assets. However, by the season’s end, Abraham had become a surplus option at Stamford Bridge. What caused this massive shift? In simple terms, it was the mid-season arrival of manager Thomas Tuchel.

A star player under previous manager Frank Lampard, Abraham quickly fell out of favor with Tuchel. Pushed down the pecking order at Chelsea, he was left out of the Blues’ Champions League final squad last season despite full fitness. However, in spite of his limited game time under Tuchel, the 23-year-old forward still finished as Chelsea’s joint top scorer with 12 goals.

This did, however, represent a significant reduction from the striker’s previous campaign. Joining the Chelsea first team full-time after a previous season loan to then Championship side Aston Villa, Abraham finished with 18 goals to his name in 2019/20.

Now potentially moving both club and country, Tammy Abraham has a chance to rekindle his once dominant form. At Roma, he can become a world star. Joining forces with Jose Mourinho, Abraham can take a similar path to soon-to-be Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku.

The only thing left at this stage is for Roma and Abraham to reach personal terms. Once that is complete, a chance for the England international to reignite his career will likely come.

Main Photo
Embed from Getty Images

The Tammy Abraham saga at Chelsea appears to be close to an end.
