One of the highest-rated youngsters in the Bournemouth<\/a> youth system, Jake Adams, has been taken in on-trial by Southampton<\/a>, reports Hampshire Live’s<\/a> Tom Leach. After rejecting a contract offer from Bournemouth, Adams is now attempting to earn a contract with the Cherries’ south coast rivals.<\/p>\n

A move to Southampton would be a homecoming of sorts for the young Englishman. Born in Basingstoke, Adams is a former member of the Southampton academy and was released as a 12-year-old. He was then snapped up by Bournemouth for their own youth setup.<\/p>\n

Youth Team Boost<\/h3>\n

Since arriving at the Saints’ Staplewood Campus, Jake Adams has made two pre-season appearances for the club’s B team. Playing in the number ten position, Adams has impressed the coaching staff with his performance. During the side’s recent match against Salisbury, Adams scored the Saints second goal in a 2-1 victory. Playing alongside fellow trialist Abdul Abdulmalik<\/a>, Adams’ trial continues Southampton’s push to add fresh blood into their youth ranks.<\/p>\n

With Nathan Tella moving into the first team and Dan N’Lundulu<\/a> moving on loan, the Southampton youth set-up is in need of new attacking options. Both Abdulmalik and Adams seemingly fit that bill. They entered their trials with the club as highly-rated youth stars and both could present the club with attacking options for years to come.<\/p>\n

Jake Adams: Saint Turned Cherry Turned Saint?<\/h3>\n

Signed as a youngster by the club, Jake Adams began his career within the Southampton youth set-up. After working his way up, Adams was eventually released by Southampton at the age of 12. Picked up by fellow South Coast side Bournemouth, Adams quickly developed into a highly touted prospect for the Cherries’ youth side.<\/p>\n

After declining a professional contract from Bournemouth this summer, the 18-year-old has looked to take advantage of the buzz that surrounded him. Since that time, Adams quickly accepted an offer to go on trial with the Southampton B team. Given his performance thus far, it seems likely that Adams could soon receive an offer from the Saints.<\/p>\n

If any of the above sounds familiar, it may be because Adams’ story is very similar to that of current Southampton star Danny Ings. Rejected by the club’s youth setup as a boy, Winchester-born Ings soon joined the Bournemouth academy. Developing into a top player, Ings has gone on to star for the likes of Burnley<\/a>, Liverpool<\/a>, and, of course, Southampton.<\/p>\n

Despite the similarities, Jake Adams’ future remains up in the air. However, given all of the above, he is definitely one to watch.<\/p>\n
