Saint-Etienne midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath is set to sign a new contract with the Ligue 1<\/a> club that will keep him at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard until June 2025.<\/p>\n

The 17-year-old is seen as one of the brightest young talents in French football and has already been scouted by a host of top clubs around Europe.<\/p>\n

Lucas Gourna-Douath to Sign New Four-Year Deal with St-Etienne<\/h2>\n

Youngster is Already a First-Team Regular<\/h3>\n

According to Fabrizio Romano<\/a>, the likes of Chelsea<\/a> and Borussia Dortmund<\/a> are among the sides to have earmarked Gourna-Douath as a player to watch out for as he continues his development.<\/p>\n

That development has been taking place at senior level ever since Gourna-Douath was promoted from the Saint-Etienne B team to the first-team squad last summer. Prior to that, the central midfielder had been playing for the club’s U19s.<\/p>\n

Last season was something of a breakthrough campaign for the player, who made 30 appearances in Ligue 1 as Saint-Etienne finished 11th in the table.<\/p>\n

Gourna-Douath has also represented the French national side at youth team level, making his debut for the U16s in September 2018 before going on to play for the U17s a year later.<\/p>\n

Ligue 1 Set for Unpredictable Season<\/h3>\n

Having put to bed any concerns over his immediate future, Gourna-Douath will expect to be a regular for Saint-Etienne once more as the new Ligue 1 season gets underway later this week.<\/p>\n

Last season’s surprise champions Lille – who pipped Paris Saint-Germain<\/a> to the title by a single point – laid down a marker ahead of the new season by defeating Mauricio Pochettino’s side to claim their first-ever French Super Cup.<\/p>\n

That defeat marked the first time PSG have failed to win the Troph\u00e9e des Champions for eight years, suggesting all is not well in Pochettino’s camp. Having recently extended his contract<\/a> at the Parc des Princes, the former Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> manager will hope he can reclaim top spot in Ligue 1 title and deliver a first top-flight title as a manager.<\/p>\n
