The goalkeeper penned a four-year contract with the peacocks, that could see him remain at Elland Road until 2025. The clubs have not yet disclosed the transfer fee but, according to Phil Hay of The Athletic, Leeds United have paid in excess of £1 million for the service of the shot-stopper.

The Norweigian joins the club almost two years after Leeds first made contact with Valerenga regarding a potential move for the goalkeeper.

Kristoffer Klaesson will be the 70th Norweigian to play in the Premier League. He will also be the fifth Norweigian, and first since Erik Bakke in 2004, to play for Leeds in England’s top flight.

Valerenga Congratules Klaesson on his Move to Premier League

Klaesson came up through Valrenga’s youth system and made his senior debut for the club in 2018. The goalkeeper enjoyed a brilliant breakout season and established himself as the club’s first-choice shot-stopper last year. Since his debut, Klaesson has made 58 appearances for the Norweigian side.

His former side had a heart whelming message for their academy product following his move. Speaking to club’s website, Valrenga Director of Football Jorgen Ingebrigtsen said: “It is with pride and joy that we send Kristoffer all the way to the top of the football world. There are of course many who should be praised for the development work that has been done in the club, both academia and A-team, but perhaps most of all we must praise Kristoffer himself for a great progress in recent years.

“Leeds contacted me regarding Kristoffer for the first time in 2019, so in other words this has been a long process. I know how much they have given in the agreement with us and the player, and I feel confident that his development will be a priority in the coming years. Good luck on the next adventure. We will cheer from Intility Arena, and then we will see each other again in a few years.”

Main Photo
Embed from Getty Images

Leeds United have officially signed Kristoffer Klaesson from Valrenga.
