Arsenal<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Everton<\/span><\/a>, and\u00a0<\/span>Leicester City<\/span><\/a>\u00a0have all shown an interest in\u00a0<\/span>Preston North End<\/span><\/a>\u00a0midfielder Lewis Leigh,\u00a0<\/span>as reported by football.london.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

The 17-year-old, who was released by Liverpool<\/a> aged 13, is expected to sign a new contract at Deepdale with there being just a single year left on his scholarship deal at the club.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lewis Leigh is One for the Future<\/span><\/h3>\n

Leigh is yet to feature at first-team level for The Lilywhites, which comes as no real surprise given his age. However, he has appeared on the bench for Preston’s Championship clash with Millwall.<\/span><\/p>\n

The young midfielder particularly stood out in the FA Youth Cup for the Lancashire club. When Preston hosted Lincoln City in the competition, the 17-year-old put in an exceptional display. Assessing Leigh’s performance that day, Lancs Live have said: “Clearly a fearless midfield player who plays with his heart on his sleeve.<\/span><\/p>\n

“When the tide of the game swung the way of Lincoln, Leigh stood up to the fight, maintained a high-level of energy in his play and got stuck in.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Not an overly imposing figure physically, he makes up for that with his aggression and hunger on the pitch. Not afraid of a tackle, to try the ambitious pass or take the shot on.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Leigh showed a few times that he has the ability to burst forward from midfield, into forward areas and hit the box – which almost led to him opening the scoring in the first half.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Given the nature of the EFL pyramid, talented youngsters are sometimes picked up from the lower divisions, tabling offers that are too tempting to turn down.<\/span><\/p>\n

And with England’s traditional top six continuing to dominate the European transfer market, the EFL is now being explored more often than ever.<\/span><\/p>\n
