According to Fabrizio Romano<\/a>, Chelsea<\/a> agreed personal terms with Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde. The Blues are now in advanced talks over a fee for the 22-year-old, and they could include Kurt Zouma as part of the deal.<\/p>\n

The centre-back, who previously attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> before it became clear that he wants Champions League football, has agreed a contract until 2026.<\/p>\n

At 22, Kounde is one of the best young defenders around, making him the perfect fit for Chelsea.<\/p>\n

The Blues currently have the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva among their options to choose from, both of which are either past their prime or getting close to it. Silva, 36, is particularly nearing the end of his career and will need replacing. And that\u2019s where Kounde could come in.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s taken a while, but Chelsea finally look likely to flex the power of the European crown. That golden tint shines almost like a signal in the sky that Stamford Bridge is the place to be; that Thomas Tuchel is the man to play under.<\/p>\n

In truth, they don\u2019t need much this summer. Last season\u2019s spending saw them recruit enough talent for years to come; talent that will make their mark following a season of adjustment. This summer is just about filling in the gaps, making sure the squad is as strong as it can be for both the present and the future. And Kounde ticks that box.<\/p>\n

Having parted ways with Fikayo Tomori earlier in the summer, too, there is no denying that Chelsea need a young reinforcement. Kounde, as proven at Sevilla, is a better long-term option than Tomori whilst also carrying that extra experience needed.<\/p>\n

The forthcoming season is likely to be Thiago Silva\u2019s last at 36, meaning that Kounde would have a campaign to learn and adjust before entering the starting 11 on a permanent basis. The Frenchman is reportedly open to the move. Now, it\u2019s just about whether Chelsea can agree a deal with Sevilla.<\/p>\n
