Despite fears that his future may not lie with Arsenal<\/a> amid Aston Villa interest,<\/a> Emile Smith Rowe has signed a new long-term contract at the Emirates. The midfielder has instantly been rewarded for his commitment, too, with the number ten shirt.<\/p>\n

Previously worn by the likes of Dennis Bergkamp, Paul Merson, William Galas and Robin van Persie, Smith Rowe joins an elite list. He has proven that he is more than capable of living up to the heigh standards, however.<\/p>\n

With the contract sealed, Arsenal technical director Edu had plenty of praise, saying<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cThis is another\u00a0important step forward for us and we\u2019re all delighted that Emile has signed a new long-term contract. It\u2019s great to see another young player develop through our academy system to become a key part of our first team. Emile is a player who represents the future of the club and this is why we have given him the No 10 shirt. We have trust in Emile and we know he has the potential to be a beautiful player for many years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, manager Mikel Arteta was also pleased with the news: \u201cAs we all saw last season, Emile is an\u00a0intelligent player with excellent ability. His sharpness on the turn\u00a0and\u00a0exceptional vision have already made him a key\u00a0player for us. His attitude and willingness to learn have also been very impressive. Huge credit to our team in our academy who have given Emile a great education and have worked superbly to help with his development through the age groups.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlong with the first-team staff, huge credit also goes to our senior players, who have played such an important role to help Emile develop, gain confidence and perform the way he did last season. I know the fans will join us in being delighted that Emile has committed his future to the club.
