Asmir Begovic has completed his move from Bournemouth<\/a> to Everton<\/a>, becoming the second signing of the Rafa Benitez era and signing a deal until 2023. The deal, for free, makes perfect sense for the Toffees, who have been searching for a backup to number one Jordan Pickford since Robin Olsen\u2019s departure.<\/p>\n

As previously touched on, Begovic has a wealth of Premier League experience under his belt. He played for Stoke City for five years before joining Chelsea<\/a> in 2015. It was there he won the Premier League in 2017, deputising for Thibaut Courtois.<\/p>\n

His latest club before the Everton move came in the form of Bournemouth, where he suffered relegation before play-off failure last season. It has to be said, however, that the failure was no fault of Begovic\u2019s, who showed his experience throughout.<\/p>\n

Now at Everton at 34-years-old, the main aim will be to help both on and off the pitch. On the pitch, when handed an opportunity, he\u2019ll have the simple task of just taking it; he must use every minute he gets to stake a claim for even more game time.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, off the pitch, he has the chance to become a leader in the Everton dressing room. And that\u2019s what the Toffees need. With that leadership, they may well find themselves in amongst the European places under new manager Rafa Benitez.<\/p>\n

What Was Said?<\/h3>\n

Speaking to the Everton YouTube channel<\/a>, the goalkeeper said: \u201cWhen I first heard of the possibility of joining Everton, I was really excited.<\/p>\n

\u201cOpportunities like this don\u2019t come round every day so I\u2019m just really honoured and pleased to be here.\u00a0I\u2019m definitely here to compete.<\/p>\n

\u201cJordan is a world-class goalkeeper and I think the group here is fantastic.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a great goalkeeper coach in Alan Kelly.<\/p>\n

“We are going to push each other every single day and set those standards in training.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to look to help in whatever way I can\u2026 with a bit of leadership around the group and trying to be a positive influence. Not just on Jordan but on all my teammates.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe talent at this club over the years has been amazing.<\/p>\n

“It is no different now, with a lot of good players coming through, especially in the goalkeeping department.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I can help them in any way, shape or form, then I would love to do that and set an example: train well, play well and hopefully help them [emerging players] along in their careers.\u201d<\/p>\n
