West Bromwich Albion<\/a> are reportedly in talks<\/a> to sign Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea. The 22-year old, who can play both in midfield or in defence, spent last season on loan at Ligue 1 side Lorient.<\/p>\n

Squad Changes After Relegation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

West Brom are undergoing changes in their squad after relegation from the Premier League in 2020\/21. Veterans Kieran Gibbs, Lee Peltier and Branislav Ivanovic have departed. Additionally, a number of players in their Premier League squad were on loan. Midfielders Conor Gallagher, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Okay Yokuslu have all returned to their parent sides. Rekeem Harper and Hal Robson-Kanu have also departed.<\/p>\n

Their only incomings so far have been midfielder Alex Mowatt<\/a> and defender Matt Clarke. Mowatt, who was part of the losing side in the promotion play-offs semifinal against Swansea, left Barnsley at the end of his contract, while Clarke joins on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion<\/a> having spent the last two seasons on loan at Derby County.<\/p>\n

Free Transfer for Chalobah<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Trevoh Chalobah is a product of Chelsea’s academy, like his older brother and current Watford<\/a> player Nathaniel Chalobah. He spent the 2018\/19 and 2019\/20 seasons on loan at Championship sides Ipswich Town and Huddersfield Town. Last season, he joined Lorient in Ligue 1 and was part of the side that picked up a shock 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The competition in places is very high at Chelsea, both in midfield and defence. He is set for a move away now. Reportedly, Chelsea will not demand a transfer fee despite the fact that there are two years left on his contract<\/a>. This might be a direct result of the pandemic-affected economic climate. There will be other clauses in the contract, however, with the possibility of a buy-back clause or more likely, a sell-on clause.<\/p>\n

Chalobah is also wanted by Lorient and newly-promoted side Brentford<\/a>.<\/p>\n
