Sampdoria are intent on keeping Danish winger Mikkel Damsgaard at the club this summer, as reported by Gazetta dello Sport<\/a>. Damsgaard, who turned 21 this month, has been one of the breakout stars at Euro 2020. His performances have sparked the interest of leading clubs.<\/p>\n

Sampdoria Want to Keep Mikkel Damsgaard<\/h2>\n

Damsgaard is a product of FC Nordsj\u00e6lland’s academy, and he made his senior debut for the club in 2017. After making 93 appearances across three years, he joined Sampdoria last summer. He ended his first season in Serie A with only two goals, but he was one of the brightest young prospects in the league.<\/p>\n

It is at Euro 2020, however, where Damsgaard has really made his mark. He was in the squad<\/a> as a backup option to Christian Eriksen. The tragedy surrounding their talisman<\/a> led to Damsgaard coming into the side against Belgium. Immediately, he impressed with his drive and footwork. He was one of the stars of the game, even as Denmark ended up on the losing side. Against Russia, he opened the scoring and played his part in a big win that confirmed Denmark’s last 16 place.<\/p>\n

Indeed, Damsgaard has been brilliant in every game. The semi-final against England <\/a>provided another glimpse of his quality. The youngster fired in a brilliant free-kick to put Denmark ahead. He was taken off in the second half, and Denmark went on to lose, but Damsgaard made his mark on the game and it was a memorable strike.<\/p>\n

Transfer Battle Emerging<\/h3>\n

Damsgaard has conjured up a transfer storm with his Euro displays. Premier League clubs Liverpool and Tottenham have been credited with an interest along with Juventus and Barcelona. Spanish outlet Fichajes<\/a> have added Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid into the mix.<\/p>\n

Sampdoria signed Damsgaard for \u20ac8 million last year, and they won’t let him go for cheap. CEO Carlo Osti wants the winger to stay at the club for at least another season and develop his game more. He also mentioned that the player is worth a lot of money, in spite of what price the market fixes for him. As of now, the plan is to keep him for this season at least, but it remains to be seen if there are any concrete moves that change Sampdoria’s mind.<\/p>\n
