Germany midfielder Toni Kroos has announced his retirement from international football<\/a>. The Real Madrid<\/a> midfielder calls time on what\u2019s been a terrific international career which brought one World Cup title.<\/p>\n

Kroos played 106 times for his country but has decided at the age of 31, that this is the right time to end his international career<\/p>\n

The Real Madrid midfielder has been a consistent performer for Germany since making his debut in 2010. He took part in seven major tournaments for his country including their 2014 World Cup win in Brazil.<\/p>\n

His announcement comes following Germany\u2019s exit at the last 16 stage of Euro 2020. Germany were dumped out by England<\/a> at Wembley and following that, Kroos has decided now is the right time.<\/p>\n

Kroos will not be part of a new look Germany with Joachim Loew departing after 16 years<\/a> in charge. Hansi Flick will lead the national side but will be without a loyal servant in Kroos. He managed 17 goals in his 106 caps including two in their infamous World Cup win over Brazil and a stunning stoppage time free-kick against Sweden at the 2018 World Cup.<\/p>\n

The midfielder\u2019s quality on the ball and leadership will be missed as Germany begin a new era. As for Kroos, the midfielder\u2019s focus turns to Real Madrid. The 31 year-old will continue to be an instrumental figure for Los Blancos as they gear up for Carlo Ancelotti\u2019s return. Ancelotti signed Kroos for Real Madrid in 2014 and it\u2019s likely Kroos will be key going forward.<\/p>\n

A Tremendous International Career Comes to an End<\/h3>\n

While the focus turns to the rest of club career, Kroos was certainly one of the best to grace the German midfield. 106 caps epitomised how key he became for his country.<\/p>\n

He was a consistent performer for Germany and he can certainly look back fondly on a terrific international career.<\/p>\n
