Portuguese giants\u00a0<\/span>Benfica<\/span><\/a>\u00a0have entered the race to sign Harry Wilson from\u00a0<\/span>Liverpool<\/span><\/a>, according to\u00a0<\/span>Ian Doyle of the Liverpool Echo<\/span><\/a>. The winger, who is currently at the Euros with Wales, spent last season on loan at Cardiff City.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wilson,\u00a0<\/span>a product of Liverpool’s academy<\/span><\/a>, has gone on five different loan spells already. He joined Crewe Alexandra on loan in summer 2015. It was a youth loan where he made seven appearances until December. Winner of Liverpool’s Academy Players’ Player of the Year in 2017\/18, Wilson then joined Hull City in 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n

He came into prominence in 2018\/19, when he excelled at\u00a0<\/span>Derby County<\/span><\/a>\u00a0under Frank Lampard. The following season,\u00a0<\/span>he joined Premier League side Bournemouth on another loan<\/span><\/a>. He had another fairly impressive season and built up a reputation for his free-kick taking ability. There was a possibility that he would leave on a permanent transfer last summer. That never came to fruition, however. Instead, he returned to the Championship,\u00a0<\/span>joining Cardiff City on loan<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Benfica are not the only club interested in Wilson.\u00a0<\/span>West Bromwich Albion<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Brentford<\/span><\/a>\u00a0are also looking to sign him. Liverpool want a permanent deal rather than another loan move.\u00a0<\/span>Last summer, an approach from Burnley for a permanent move was turned down<\/span><\/a>. He eventually moved to Cardiff. After another good season, Liverpool’s valuation of the winger is around \u00a312 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

Benfica have not made an official approach yet. The final outcome may not be seen before the Euros are over. Benfica lost out on the Portuguese Primeira Liga title to surprise winners Sporting Lisbon. Harry Wilson might be part of the rebuild that is aimed at returning to the top. For Wilson, another Championship loan may not seem attractive enough. Brentford can offer Premier League football after their promotion, while Benfica offer European football.<\/span><\/p>\n
