Lucien Favre has agreed a deal to become Crystal Palace<\/a> manager, according to The Athletic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The former Borussia Dortmund<\/a> manager is close to signing a three-year deal with the club, pending a work permit.<\/p>\n

Hunt is Almost Over<\/h3>\n

Palace’s hunt for a new manager appears to be over.<\/p>\n

The South London-based club have been without a manager after the departure of Roy Hodgson following the final game of the 2020\/21 season.<\/p>\n

The Eagles have gone through an extensive list of candidates, including former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo<\/a>, but have appeared to have settled on the 63-year-old.<\/p>\n

Favre has been out of work since leaving German side Dortmund in December 2020. He departed after a dreadful 5-1 defeat to Stuttgart, which saw them slump to fourth in the Bundesliga table and outside of the Champions League places.<\/p>\n

However, the Swiss had enjoyed successful spell with the German club before departing. He led them to back-to-back second place finishes, losing out on the title to Bayern Munich<\/a> in his first season by just two points.<\/p>\n

Favre has also had spells in charge of Dortmund’s Bundesliga rivals Hertha Berlin and Borussia Mochengladbach, as well as French side OGC Nice.<\/p>\n

What Does This Mean for Crystal Palace?<\/h3>\n

The appointment of Favre is likely to excite Palace fans and catch plenty of attention from on-lookers.<\/p>\n

With an attacking philosophy, the 63-year-old will be a stark contrast to that of Hodgson, who’s more defensive attitude frustrated those in the stands throughout the last two seasons.<\/p>\n

According to The Athletic, it has also been Favre’s willingness to use younger players that has seen him become the firm favourite for the job. The Eagles are looking to reduce the average age of their first-team squad but are also keen to promote from within after redeveloping their academy.<\/p>\n

Should he receive his work permit, the Swiss will be in charge in time for the start of pre-season.<\/p>\n
