Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell will be unavailable for England\u2019s final Euro 2020 group game against the Czech Republic on Tuesday after going into self-isolation.<\/p>\n
In a statement released by the FA on Tuesday<\/a>, it was revealed the decision has been taken in consultation with Public Health England after the duo were seen interacting with Chelsea teammate Billy Gilmour, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday<\/a>, after England\u2019s 0-0 draw with Scotland at Wembley on Friday.<\/p>\n \u201cThe entire England squad and staff had lateral flow tests on Monday and all were again negative,\u201d the statement read. \u201cWe will continue to follow all COVID-19 protocols and the UEFA testing regime while remaining in close contact with PHE.\u201d<\/p>\n In adherence with COVID protocols, both Chilwell and Mount will now have to self-isolate for a mandatory ten-day period, up to and including Monday 28 June. They will be transported back to London from England\u2019s training base at St George\u2019s Park as a precautionary measure.<\/p>\n Depending on results in Group D tonight, the pair could also miss England\u2019s Round of 16 fixture. If England beat the Czech Republic and top the group, they will face the second-placed team in Group F at Wembley on Tuesday 29 June.<\/p>\n However, if they finish as runners-up, they will begin the knockout stages on Monday 28 June, which would rule Mount and Chilwell out. A similar situation might occur if Gareth Southgate\u2019s side were to finish as one of the four best third-placed teams. That would mean they would play either the winners of Group B or C on Sunday or the winners of Group E on Tuesday.<\/p>\n It remains to be seen how the absence of Mount, in particular, will affect Southgate\u2019s selection for the game against the Czechs, and potentially beyond. The dynamic Chelsea midfielder has played every minute for England so far, although it\u2019s possible he may have been rotated out for the final group game anyway.
