In a club record deal worth up to \u00a325 million, Brighton & Hove Albion<\/a> are set to sign Stuttgart forward Nicol\u00e1s Gonz\u00e1lez, according to Ed Aarons of the Guardian<\/a>. The Argentine forward has reportedly opted for a move to the Premier League over one to the Serie A and Fiorentina.<\/p>\n

Having failed to complete the transfer last summer, Graham Potter will be delighted if the move goes through. The Seagulls are crying out for a clinical forward. They\u2019ve become known for their toothless nature in the frontline. The phrase \u2018expected goals\u2019 haunted the likes of Neal Maupay and fellow Brighton forwards last season.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

They played football worthy of a top half finish yet just about survived the drop last season as a result of their failure in front of goal. Nicol\u00e1s Gonz\u00e1lez will be desperate to put an end to their struggles.<\/p>\n

A Transfer That Carries Risk<\/h3>\n

The summer transfer window can go one of two ways. Either you get it right and enjoy a season to remember or you sign players unproven at the top level and, in some cases, unheard of. Admittedly, those in English football often react with arrogance when that \u2018unheard\u2019 of player arrives. Most would rather see proven Premier League players, and perhaps understandably so, but what if that originally ominous player turns out to be Riyad Mahrez or N\u2019Golo Kante?<\/p>\n

At the same time, you may be running the risk of signing Ali Dia. It\u2019s just a case of asking yourself whether the risk is worth taking. And, for Brighton, it is. Neal Maupay, signed from Brentford, has never hit the heights expected, so why not shop elsewhere?<\/p>\n

Nicol\u00e1s Gonz\u00e1lez scored six goals in 15 appearances last season in the Bundesliga. That\u2019s just two less league goals than Maupay managed in 41 more appearances- making the risk one worth taking by Graham Potter.<\/p>\n
