Left-back Andy Robertson has completed a transfer to Liverpool, after an \u00a38million deal was agreed. Including add-ons, the transfer fee is expected to rise to \u00a310million. The Scottish defender becomes the Reds\u2019 third summer signing, following earlier additions Dominic Solanke<\/a> and Mohamed Salah<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Andy Robertson signs for Liverpool<\/h3>\n

The attack minded full-back proved last season at Hull City that he is a competent and consistent defender, with J\u00fcrgen Klopp hoping that the addition of the 23-year-old will help add solidity to a defence that conceded 42 goals in the 2016\/17 Premier League campaign. Robertson is expected to contend with make-shift left-back and Vice-captain James Milner for a consistent starting spot; something that Robertson is very capable of achieving.<\/p>\n

The Scotsman was released by home town club Celtic as a teenager, and was later picked up by Queen\u2019s Park and then Dundee United. After a successful stint at The Tangerines, in which Robertson was named the PFA Scottish Young Player of the Year, he made the transfer to Hull City in 2014 for a fee of \u00a33million. The 23-year-old made 115 appearances for The Tigers. In the 2016\/17 league campaign, Robertson made 31 appearances at left-back for Hull, netting once and clocking up two assists.<\/p>\n

Following the failure to sign 17-year-old Fulham defender and initial target Ryan Sessegnon, the Anfield side have instead persued and brought in Robertson at full-back. This transfer will most likely pave the way for the departure of Alberto Moreno in the near future. The left back will not fly out to meet the Liverpool squad in Hong Kong for their pre-season tour, but instead will meet up with his new team-mates in Germany next week.<\/p>\n

The Last Word<\/h3>\n

Although this isn\u2019t a star studded signing for Klopp\u2019s side, it may turn out to be a significant one. At the age of 23, Robertson has plenty of upside with room to grow and develop his game further. Defensive fragility is one of the greatest weaknesses to the current Liverpool side. A consistent left-back would help sure up the Reds\u2019 defence greatly. Those at the club hope that the signing of Andy Robertson will do just that. In what is a crucial transfer window<\/a> for the Merseyside club, this may bey a key pickup.<\/p>\n
