Bayern Munich<\/a> have confirmed that they have signed full-back Omar Richards from Reading<\/a> on a four-year deal.<\/p>\n

The German champions have held a long-term interest in the 23-year-old, and is the latest English player to make the move to Germany.<\/p>\n

Richards has impressed since making his debut for Reading in 2017. The full-back has become one of the most exciting attacking full-backs in the division.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old has made 104 appearances during his time at the Madejski Stadium. His first goal for the club came in his debut season in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Although it is his attacking qualities that have caught the eye of Munich, the defender also excels defensively too. Richards has averaged 2.8 tackles<\/a> per game in the Championship this season, the most in the division.<\/p>\n

Speaking about his move to the German champions, Richards said to the club website<\/a>: “My move to FC Bayern is a great honour for me.<\/p>\n

“A dream has come true. I\u2019m proud to be wearing the shirt of one of the world’s biggest clubs.<\/p>\n

“I hope I can help the team continue to be successful in the future.”<\/p>\n

Sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, said: “We\u2019re delighted Omar is coming to FC Bayern.<\/p>\n

“Omar is a technically gifted player on the left side of defence. He finds good solutions going forward, he\u2019s very alert and we trust him to play a good role in our team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although there will be a big step up from the Championship, the 23-year-old is expected to add competition at left-back for Alphonso Davies. The Canadian is one of the best left-backs in the world, which will be a huge boost for Richards’ game.<\/p>\n

Richards will be hoping that he can follow in the footsteps of Jude Bellingham<\/a>, who made the step up from the Championship to the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund last summer. The 17-year-old has scored five goals and registered four assists in his first season with the German giants.<\/p>\n
