The Brazilian has been courted by the Citizens for some time, with many dubbing him the ‘new Neymar’. He will hope to follow in the footsteps of future teammate Gabriel Jesus, who has notched up nearly 200 appearances since arriving at the Etihad in 2017.

Manchester City Sign Kayky: All the Details About Their New Signing

Manchester City Sign Kayky: Who Is He?

We are delighted to confirm we have reached an agreement with Fluminese regarding the future transfer of Kayky. He later transferred to their football squad, becoming an important member of the youth side that won the Campeonato Brasileiro sub-17 in 2020, scoring 12 goals.

Kayky has since been promoted to the senior squad, making his debut in March against Resende. He has gone on to make nine appearances for Fluminense, scoring two goals and providing another. Kayky will remain at Fluminense until June 2022, giving him time to gain valuable experience playing in Brazil’s top division.

The Next Neymar?

Kayky is a left-footed player, who is adept at playing on either wing. He possesses deadly pace and loves to pull out skill moves, leading to several comparing him to a certain Brazilian superstar. Neymar is widely regarded as the greatest Brazilian player of his generation, so to receive comparisons to him must mean that Kayky is quite a special talent.

Speaking to Goal in February, Fluminense’s U17 coach Guilherme Torres said: “Kayky is a player who stands out a lot for his technical quality, especially with regard to one-on-ones, and also in his quality in front of goal.

“He is also very intelligent, searches for empty spaces on the field and has a good ability to provide assists for his teammates.” Such high praise meant it came as no surprise that Kayky was being monitored by some of Europe’s top sides. Man City beat the likes of Shakhtar Donetsk and Liverpool to his signature, completing a deal that could rise to £21.5 million.

Another Promising Fluminense Talent

Kayky is the latest talent to come from the prestigious Fluminense academy. The Brazilian club have developed the likes of Fabinho, Thiago Silva and Marcelo – an impressive list of alumni to show off. Kayky is likely not be the last promising Fluminense talent, with teammate Metinho reportedly on the way to Man City as part of the same deal.

Kayky follows the trend of highly-rated Brazilian attackers crossing the Atlantic to join big European clubs. As mentioned earlier, Gabriel Jesus joined City in 2017, scoring 81 goals so far for the Citizens.

Real Madrid have proved themselves to be very fond of young Brazilian players. Vinicius Junior, now a regular starting player, is living up to the hype for Los Blancos. Rodrygo has shown glimpses of what he can do, whilst the latest acquisition Reinier is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund. If Kayky can live up to the hype, he could lead the next generation of Brazilian superstars.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Manchester City have signed Kayky, the highly-rated 17-year-old winger from Fluminense.
