In this edition, we take a look at <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/5056c581\/Lucy-Bronze?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lucy Bronze<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When one considers the stand-out female footballing role models in this country, among the first names that will spring to mind is Lucy Bronze.<\/p>\n<p>The 29-year-old has enjoyed a superb career at the very highest level and has a mightily impressive trophy haul, that includes three Women\u2019s Champions League winners medals and three <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/04\/04\/womens-super-league-brighton-beat-manchester-united\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Women\u2019s Super League<\/a> titles.<\/p>\n<p>Bronze also boasts a series of personal accolades, which includes the PFA Women\u2019s Player of the Year award (twice), the UEFA Women\u2019s Player of the Year Award and was named the Best FIFA Women\u2019s Player in December last year.<\/p>\n<h2>Returning Players \u2013 Lucy Bronze<\/h2>\n<h3>First Spell at Manchester City<\/h3>\n<p>Bronze arrived at <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/03\/17\/womens-super-league-chelsea-and-manchester-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Manchester City<\/a> for the first time in 2014 after winning back-to-back Women\u2019s Super League titles with <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/04\/21\/most-expensive-football-sponsors\/\" target=\"_self\">Liverpool<\/a> and her first PFA Women\u2019s Player of the Year award.<\/p>\n<p>She arrived at City ahead of their debut season in the expanded Women\u2019s Super League, in what was still an early stage in the defender\u2019s career.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Cushing\u2019s team would go onto achieve a respectable second-place finish in her first season at the club, as a side with an English core of <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/378ce9a0\/Steph-Houghton?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steph Houghton<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/a49a1c85\/Demi-Stokes?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Demi Stokes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/bb3bd078\/Jill-Scott?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jill Scott<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/51aefd7f\/Toni-Duggan?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toni Duggan<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/ca934b6b\/Keira-Walsh?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keira Walsh<\/a>, Isobel Christiansen and <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/fa5faf19\/Nikita-Parris?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nikita Parris<\/a> began to assert themselves as one of the new powerhouses within the game.<\/p>\n<p>But the 2016 campaign was to be the stand-out season in Bronze\u2019s first tenure at the club and was part of the team that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/2016\/sep\/25\/manchester-city-win-womens-super-league\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">won City\u2019s first-ever WSL title<\/a> along with the Continental League Cup.<\/p>\n<p>The statistics from that season were also impressive; 13 wins and three draws in an unbeaten league campaign and only a solitary defeat in all competitions \u2013 in the FA Cup semi-final to <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/04\/20\/chelseas-european-super-league\/\" target=\"_self\">Chelsea<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefa.com\/news\/2016\/oct\/02\/fa-wsl-continental-tyres-cup-final-manchester-city-birmingham-city-report#:~:text=Man%20City%20edge%20Birmingham%20to%20win%20league%20and%20cup%20double&amp;text=A%20Lucy%20Bronze%20header%20in,a%20league%20and%20cup%20double.\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">It was Bronze that stole the headlines in that League Cup Final victory<\/a>, scoring an extra-time header to overcome Birmingham City 1-0 after extra time in the match at the Academy Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>Those exploits were recognised by her peers after being named the PFA Women\u2019s Players\u2019 Player of the Year and winning the FA WSL Players\u2019 Player of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>An interim FA Women\u2019s Super League Spring Series campaign was introduced in 2017, as the top tier transitioned from an all-summer schedule to one that largely mirrored the men\u2019s calendar.<\/p>\n<p>City missed out on retaining top spot and secured a second-place finish in the shortened competition, but Bronze still proved she was a woman for the biggest occasion with a goal in a 4-1 victory over Birmingham City in the FA Cup Final.<\/p>\n<h3>Teams Bronze Played for in Between<\/h3>\n<p>The Northumberland-born defender then made the move across the English Channel to French giants, Lyon, where Bronze\u2019s trophy cabinet began to overflow.<\/p>\n<p>She became a household name across Europe, playing in a stellar team that included the first Women\u2019s Ballon d\u2019Or winner <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/3a6b01d9\/Ada-Hegerberg?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ada Hegerberg<\/a> and France captain <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/6a1b832a\/Wendie-Renard?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wendie Renard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bronze won eight of nine major honours available during her time at Lyon, which included three Women\u2019s Champions League titles, three league titles and two French Cups.<\/p>\n<p>But after winning everything possible in France, it seemed a question of when rather than if one of England\u2019s brightest footballing stars would return home.<\/p>\n<h3>Return to Manchester City<\/h3>\n<p>After her contract with the French club expired in August,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/53978368#:~:text=Northumberland%2Dborn%20Bronze%20began%20her,her%20first%20spell%20in%202014.\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> she returned to a Manchester City side that were showing serious intent<\/a> in their bid to start a golden new era for women\u2019s football at the club.<\/p>\n<p>Under new head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/50cd59bd\/Gareth-Taylor?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gareth Taylor<\/a>, City brought in United States World Cup stars <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/dcd6a67e\/Rose-Lavelle?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rose Lavelle<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/9faa1610\/Sam-Mewis?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sam Mewis<\/a>, while talented forward <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/9ff67bf9\/Chloe-Kelly?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chloe Kelly<\/a> arrived from <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/03\/17\/midweek-womens-super-league-action\/\" target=\"_self\">Everton<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bronze was another piece of the jigsaw to add fresh impetus to City\u2019s title push, which is now going down to the wire in an enthralling tussle with Chelsea.<\/p>\n<p>Whether or not she claims another Women\u2019s Super League title with City this season remains to be seen, but her impact on the women\u2019s game in this country and with England cannot be questioned.<\/p>\n<p>Having already featured at two World Cups and an appearance at this year\u2019s Olympic Games seemingly certain, it is hard to imagine that there will not be more highs in what has been an incredible career for a humble girl from Berwick-Upon-Tweed.<\/p>\n<p>Main Photo<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"K-UnRzg8TG5jMqtoK6gHcA\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7;
