{"id":589426,"date":"2021-04-20T18:36:04","date_gmt":"2021-04-20T22:36:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/?p=589426"},"modified":"2021-04-20T18:36:31","modified_gmt":"2021-04-20T22:36:31","slug":"arsenal-tottenham-manchester-united-and-liverpool-withdraw-from-super-league","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/04\/20\/arsenal-tottenham-manchester-united-and-liverpool-withdraw-from-super-league\/","title":{"rendered":"Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Liverpool Withdraw From Super League"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following the withdrawal of<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/04\/20\/chelseas-european-super-league\/\" target=\"_self\"> Chelsea and Manchester City,<\/a> now <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/01\/19\/arsenal-talent-bukayo-saka-continues-to-impress\/\" target=\"_self\">Arsenal<\/a>, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/04\/20\/liverpool-players-make-stand-against-european-super-league\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Liverpool<\/a> withdraw from the planned <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/04\/20\/boris-johnson-european-super-league\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">European Super League<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Manchester United and Liverpool Withdraw From Super League<\/h2>\n<h3>Last Four English Clubs to Withdraw<\/h3>\n<p>The final four clubs, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool have now joined Manchester City and Chelsea in withdrawing from their place in the breakaway European Super League.<\/p>\n<p>Tottenham have announced via their <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/spursofficial\/status\/1384626881492889603?s=21\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> account that they have now started proceedings to withdraw from the group.<\/p>\n<p>Liverpool also announced via their <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lfc\/status\/1384626759518261251?s=21\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> account that they are no longer taking part in the ESL.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2021\/04\/20\/ed-woodward-resigns-as-manchester-united-chairman\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Manchester United<\/a> have also now officially confirmed their withdrawal from the competition but only one club in these statements has actually responded by apologising to their own fans and that is <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/arsenal\/status\/1384626900056805379?s=21\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arsenal<\/a>. In their tweet, Arsenal said that;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made a mistake and we are sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Anger Still Exists<\/h3>\n<p>Despite the fans managing to show their power and earning a victory, there is still anger that the situation ever arose at all. Questions need to be answered as to why this scheme even started to be discussed but most importantly why fans, managers and players were simply bypassed in any negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Tottenham\u2019s chairman Daniel Levy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tottenhamhotspur.com\/news\/2021\/april\/club-statement-20-april\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">had this to say;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe regret the anxiety and upset caused by the ESL proposal.
