Edinson Cavani<\/a> has yet to decide whether to extend his stay at Manchester United<\/a> into next season and “wants time to make his mind up”, according to Red Devils’ boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.<\/p>\n

The Uruguay striker arrived as a free agent at the beginning of the current season and has scored seven goals for the club across 28 matches in all competitions.<\/p>\n

Solskjaer Untroubled By Striker’s Indecision<\/h3>\n

Asked about Cavani’s future at Old Trafford in a press conference<\/a> ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Tottenham<\/a>, Solskjaer was candid in his response to the ongoing speculation around the striker.<\/p>\n

The Norwegian said: “I’ve kept in touch with Edi, of course, and we keep an open dialogue. He’s still unsure what he wants to do next season, which I find fine.<\/p>\n

“It’s not been an easy year either for him or the rest of the world this season, so he still wants time to make his mind up.”<\/p>\n

Even if the current campaign is to be Cavani’s sole season in England, his manager is backing the 34-year-old to contribute highly in the run-in, as United look to consolidate second in the Premier League and go all the way in the Europa League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I’m very sure that we’ll get a good version of Edinson for the rest of the season,” Solskjaer said of the role the veteran goalscorer will play in the coming weeks. “He knows that this is the business end of the season, where we fight for the Europa League trophy and can see the end line in the league,” added the 48-year-old.<\/p>\n

Manchester United Aiming to Prove a Point Against Tottenham<\/h3>\n

This season has seen eye-catching results on a near-weekly basis in the Premier League. Solskjaer’s United side were certainly on the end of one last October – when Jos\u00e9 Mourinho’s Tottenham triumphed 6-1 at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

Solskjaer, however, has said that his side were quick to put that performance behind them; he has credited an improved level of fitness for their resurgence since.<\/p>\n

“The players will remember that game with a lot of pain,” Solskjaer said. “Their pride has been hurt; our professional pride has been hurt. The manner in which we lost is not ourselves and worthy of our team, and we know that.<\/p>\n

“We gave ourselves a difficult game by having 10 men. Pre-season was short and we weren’t up to the standard required, but we were so poor and I’m pretty sure we’ll see some players wanting to prove that we’re better than that.<\/p>\n

“The biggest thing that we’ve improved on is our fitness levels because we were way short of where they were at. And we got conned into a red card and that’s something that we have to be aware of”.<\/p>\n

Manchester United travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday evening looking to further cement their position in the Premier League’s top four.<\/p>\n
