Luton Town Eliminate Any Relegation Worries With Comfortable Victory<\/h3>\n

Luton Town bridged a 15-point gap from Rotherham United in 22nd with a convincing\u00a0<\/span>2-0 win<\/span><\/a>\u00a0against\u00a0<\/span>Coventry City<\/span><\/a>, and seemingly eliminated any relegation worries.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a bizarre opening 15 minutes, the score could have quite easily been 3-3. The Hatters looked dangerous in possession and threatened on several occasions, but the visitors broke out from the back brilliantly and were unlucky not to grab an early away goal.\u00a0<\/span>Luton<\/span><\/a>\u00a0started to insert their dominance as the half wore on and opened the scoring through an unlikely source. Right-back\u00a0<\/span>James Bree<\/span><\/a>\u00a0got on the end of\u00a0<\/span>Harry Cornick<\/span><\/a>‘s deep cross and volleyed his effort beyond\u00a0<\/span>Ben Wilson<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in the Coventry goal. In the 42nd minute,\u00a0<\/span>Elijah Adebayo<\/span><\/a>\u00a0coolly converted from the penalty spot after\u00a0<\/span>Kyle McFadzean<\/span><\/a>\u00a0was adjudged to have handled the ball on the line and was subsequently shown the red card. The Hatters made the extra man count but were unable to add an all-important third.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Hatters now sit in 14th place, with a top-half finish becoming a newly set objective by\u00a0<\/span>Nathan Jones<\/span><\/a>. For the Sky Blues, they remain a mere six points above the relegation zone, but the current occupiers Rotherham, have three games in hand.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cherries Brush Aside Promotion-Hopefuls Swansea City<\/h3>\n

Bournemouth continued their play-off push with a\u00a0<\/span>3-0 victory<\/span><\/a>\u00a0over an automatic promotion-chasing\u00a0<\/span>Swansea City.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Phillip Billing spectacularly opened the scoring in the ninth minute, with an acrobatic effort that flew beyond Freddie Woodman in the Swans goal. Moments before half-time, an own-goal doubled the hosts’ lead, when Joel Latibeaudiare converted past his own keeper to give Arnaut Danjuma his second assist of the game. And it was the Dutchman who eventually sealed the three points for the home side when he powered his effort past Woodman in the 87th minute to complete a comfortable night for\u00a0<\/span>Jonathan Woodgate<\/span><\/a>‘s side.<\/span><\/p>\n

With Reading losing, Bournemouth moved to within two points of the play-offs. For Swansea, they are now three points off Watford in second but still possess a vital game in hand.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hornets Hit Four in Yorkshire<\/h3>\n

Watford strengthened their automatic-promotion stance with a\u00a0<\/span>4-1 win<\/span><\/a>\u00a0over a\u00a0<\/span>Rotherham United<\/span><\/a>\u00a0side, who remain deep within a relegation battle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Francisco Sierralta<\/span><\/a>\u00a0nodded in an early opener before\u00a0<\/span>Ismaila Sarr<\/span><\/a>\u00a0volleyed in from close range to double his sides lead in the 26th minute. Watford continued their first-half dominance with a third goal before half-time, when\u00a0<\/span>Ken Sema<\/span><\/a>volleyed past Jamal Blackman in the Rotherham goal, after\u00a0<\/span>Philip Zinckernagel<\/span><\/a>‘s cross evaded his intended targets. In the 68th minute,\u00a0<\/span>Freddie Ladapo<\/span><\/a>\u00a0clawed a goal back for the struggling Millers, when his marvellous swerved effort found the top-right corner. But, the three-goal advantage was restored less than a minute later.\u00a0<\/span>Dan Gosling<\/span><\/a>\u00a0followed up\u00a0<\/span>Andre Gray<\/span><\/a>‘s effort for a simple tap-in.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Millers still sit six points below Birmingham City and Coventry but possess three games in hand to escape the Championship drop. The Hornets are still second and are three points above Swansea and five above Brentford, albeit both clubs have a game in hand.<\/span><\/p>\n
