There were midweek wins for Chelsea<\/a> and Manchester City<\/a> in the Women\u2019s Super League<\/a>, as the top two sides both gained maximum points on the road.<\/p>\n

Chelsea and Manchester City Both Win in the Women\u2019s Super League<\/h2>\n

Chelsea Put Three Past Everton in Midweek Women’s Super League Clash<\/h3>\n

Chelsea followed on from their success in the Continental League Cup Final<\/a> with a convincing 3-0 win away at Everton.<\/p>\n

The Blues recovered after seeing Melanie Leupolz<\/a>\u2019s first-minute penalty saved by Tinja-Riika Korpela, and took the three points back to west London thanks to a goal each from Fran Kirby<\/a>, Pernille Harder<\/a>, while Leupolz redeemed herself to add a third.<\/p>\n

Kirby broke the deadlock in the 14th minute after she latched onto Sam Kerr<\/a>\u2019s through ball and coolly slotted the ball past Korpela.<\/p>\n

Kirby then added an assist to her name by laying the ball on a plate for Harder to double Chelsea\u2019s advantage in the 60th minute.<\/p>\n

Leupolz rounded off another fine day\u2019s work for Emma Hayes\u2019 side in the 79th minute when she was quickest to react on the rebound following Korpela\u2019s save from Harder\u2019s initial effort to make the final score 3-0.<\/p>\n

The result leaves Chelsea with 44 points from 17 games \u2013 two clear of Manchester City at the top of the table.<\/p>\n

It was a sixth defeat of the season for Everton, who remain fifth with 25 points from 17 matches.<\/p>\n

Manchester City Overcome Bristol City and Follow in Chelsea Footsteps<\/h3>\n

Manchester City recorded a tenth consecutive Women\u2019s Super League win in a row, with a 3-0 victory against Bristol City.<\/p>\n

Caroline Weir<\/a>, Ellen White<\/a> and Sam Mewis<\/a> were all on target for City as they kept up with Chelsea at the top of the table.<\/p>\n

For Bristol City, that results sees them drop back to the bottom of the table on goal difference with nine points from 16 games.<\/p>\n

Weir broke the deadlock in the 12th\u00a0minute to tap home from close range after being teed up by Chloe Kelly<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Lauren Hemp<\/a> was then the provider for White, who clinically dispatched a second with 30 minutes played.<\/p>\n

USA World Cup winner Mewis then added further gloss to the scoreline with a header in the 89th\u00a0minute.<\/p>\n

Brighton & Hove Albion Defeat Aston Villa<\/h3>\n

Brighton secured a record-extending fourth consecutive Women\u2019s Super League victory<\/a> with a 2-0 win against Aston Villa.<\/p>\n

Aileen Whelan<\/a> and Inessa Kaagman<\/a> were on target in an excellent night\u2019s work for the Seagulls at the Banks\u2019s Stadium, as Hope Powell\u2019s side moved up to sixth in the table.<\/p>\n

Villa remain tenth with ten points from 15 games \u2013 one clear of West Ham United and Bristol City in the two places directly below them.<\/p>\n

Whelan got Brighton\u2019s first goal with a poacher\u2019s finish after Lisa Weiss<\/a> made a hash of Megan Connolly<\/a>\u2019s long-range strike.<\/p>\n

Weiss then brought down Kayleigh Green<\/a> in the box and Kaagman confidently dispatched the resulting penalty with 81 minutes played to make the final score 2-0.<\/p>\n

Birmingham City Share the Spoils With West Ham United<\/h3>\n

Birmingham City scored a stoppage-time equaliser to secure a point away at West Ham United in a 2-2 draw.<\/p>\n

Ruby Mace<\/a> netted in the fourth minute of added time to earn Carla Ward\u2019s side a draw, after goals from Emily van Egmond<\/a> and Katerina Svitkova<\/a> looked like being enough to earn the Hammers all three points.<\/p>\n

Emily Murphy<\/a> gave Birmingham the lead in the ninth minute as West Ham failed to deal with a corner into the box.<\/p>\n

Van Egmond levelled the scoreline a minute into the second half after Blues goalkeeper \u00a0Hannah Hampton<\/a> failed to claim a free-kick played into the box, and the Australian pounced with a close-range finish.<\/p>\n

Svitkova added a second for the Hammers with a brilliant left-footed strike that clipped in off the post in the 73rd minute before Mace made a late run into the box to score at the far post and rescue a point for the Blues.<\/p>\n

The result was enough to lift West Ham off the foot of the table,<\/a> while Birmingham remain ninth with 12 points from 15 games to conclude the eventful midweek Women’s Super League action.<\/p>\n
