The acquisition of the World Cup winner would not be cheap, but given the club’s defensive situation this year, a central defender of Varane’s quality,l would certainly be of interest.<\/p>\n

Regarded as two of the best defenders in modern-day football, a central defensive partnership of Raphael Varane and Virgil van Dijk would certainly excite Liverpool fans.<\/p>\n

Mundo Deportivo’s report<\/a> labels Varane as the ‘perfect match’ to van Dijk, a pairing that would be feared by the Premier League. The Reds have had to endure endless centre-back combinations since their trusted trio of van Dijk, Joe Gomez<\/a> and Joel Matip<\/a>, all suffered relatively long-term injuries during this season.<\/p>\n

Both Jordan Henderson<\/a> and Fabinho have been deployed as centre-backs in recent months, and whilst they have both displayed that they are competent enough to fill such a void, a fully fit Liverpool defence would boost the club massively.<\/p>\n
