Manchester United<\/a> were ultimately unable to secure the marquee signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho last summer,<\/a>\u00a0and now they are set to cool their interest in the 20-year-old. The constant pursuit of the Englishman ended in disappointment for United fans, as the club failed to strike a deal with Dortmund.<\/p>\n

There was barely a day during last summer’s transfer window where a ‘Jadon Sancho to Manchester United’ story did not grab the headlines. Although such a move failed to materialise, it was expected that the Red Devils would continue working on a deal. And although, United<\/a> remain somewhat interested in Sancho -should the right deal proposed –\u00a0the Athletic have reported that these talks have been temporarily paused<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The English winger made a slower start to the 2020\/21 campaign but has since scored five and assisted a further five in his last nine games.<\/a> And whilst Dortmund possess the same firepower they have had in recent seasons, the club sit in sixth place, with their place in Europe under serious threat. In a financial sense, the loss of European football would damage the club, and it could result in the club being more inclined to soften its stance on a Sancho departure.<\/p>\n

Rise of Mason Greenwood Halting Sancho Pursuit<\/h3>\n

Mason Greenwood has emerged as one of the Premier League’s brightest talents in recent months. The 19-year-old took to the Premier League seamlessly last season, scoring ten goals in 12 starts.<\/p>\n

Although his progress at the club has not been so exponential this time around, he remains a big part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans and is expected to gradually be integrated into the first-team squad within the next 12 months.<\/p>\n

Greenwood’s rise and subsequent Premier League form has been recognised by United, with the 19-year-old signing a new contract last week.<\/p>\n
